The Role:
Simple Technology Solutions (STS) is in search of a seasoned Data Engineer with a deep understanding of data engineering principles and hands-on experience in DevOps methodologies, particularly focused on SQL and cloud technologies. The ideal candidate will have prior government contracting experience.
The Data Engineer at STS will:
- Design, implement, and maintain database systems prioritizing reliability, scalability, and security.
- Develop and optimize SQL queries and scripts for maximum efficiency and performance.
- Collaborate with AWS Glue developers to design and implement data integration, transformation, and ETL workflows, leveraging AWS Glue and other AWS services.
- Lead data migration initiatives from legacy systems to cloud-based, PaaS/SaaS systems using AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) and Schema Conversion Tool (SCT).
- Deploy Apache Airflow to orchestrate data migration processes.
- Integrate database services seamlessly into broader cloud infrastructure, leveraging AWS services in collaboration with the development team.
- Enforce best practices in database management and ensure compliance with data security regulations.
- Utilize scripting languages like Python, Bash, or Shell for automating database tasks, reducing time and complexity.
- Participate in the entire application lifecycle, including coding, script writing, and diagnostic testing on both the database and associated software.
- Provide technical expertise and support to team members and stakeholders, resolving intricate database issues.
- Continuously evaluate and recommend improvements to database systems and architecture.
Education and Experience:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- 5 years of experience in a similar role, with substantial exposure to SQL tuning and cloud formation.
- Proven track record of working with Amazon Aurora and/or PostgreSQL in a production environment.
- Strong SQL skills and proficiency in SQL tuning techniques.
- Expertise in AWS services such as EC2, Route 53, VPC, IAM, and CloudFormation.
- Hands-on experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation purposes.
- Familiarity with database security concepts and best practices.
- Previous government contracting experience is a plus.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities, with a proven track record of effective teamwork.
- Must be available to work 8am-5pm Eastern Time regardless of home location.
Preferred
- Experience with other AWS database services such as RDS.
- Knowledge of containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools (e.g., CI/CD pipelines, Git).
- AWS Certified Data Engineer Certification
Preferred Certifications
- AWS Certifications are highly desirable
