Data Engineer

Position Summary

The Data Engineer supports our distribution operations by building and maintaining reports, dashboards, and data pipelines across sales, inventory, warehouse, and vendor systems. This role transforms ERP and point-of-sale data into actionable insights for branch managers, purchasing, and executive leadership — helping drive smarter inventory decisions, pricing accuracy, and operational efficiency across our distribution network.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting & Analytics

• Design and maintain dashboards for key distribution metrics: inventory turns, fill rates, branch sales performance, gross margin by product line, and vendor rebate tracking

• Write and optimize SQL queries against ERP data (e.g., Infor CloudSuite, or similar distribution ERP) to support pricing, purchasing, and sales reporting

• Build automated reporting for branch/location performance comparisons, slow-moving vs. fast-moving SKUs, and seasonal demand trends (critical in HVAC given seasonal sales cycles)

• Support rebate and vendor incentive program reporting/reconciliation

• Automate recurring reports for sales teams, purchasing managers, and branch operations to reduce manual Excel work

Data Management

• Maintain data pipelines feeding from ERP, warehouse management system (WMS), and e-commerce/B2B ordering platforms into the reporting/data warehouse layer

• Monitor data integrity across item master data, pricing tables, vendor catalogs, and multi-warehouse inventory records

• Troubleshoot discrepancies between systems (e.g., ERP vs. WMS inventory counts, EDI order data mismatches)

• Support data cleanup initiatives for SKU rationalization, vendor part number cross-referencing, and pricing matrix accuracy

Systems & Technical Support

• Support and troubleshooting issue with ERP reporting modules, EDI transactions with vendors/manufacturers

Documentation & Compliance

• Maintain documentation on data sources, report logic, and business rules specific to distribution workflows (pricing tiers, contract pricing, rebate calculations)

• Ensure reporting supports accurate sales tax, compliance, and audit requirements across multi-state branch operations

Collaboration & Communication

• Work directly with end users and sales leadership to understand reporting needs specific to HVAC seasonality and product mix

• Present inventory and sales performance insights in a clear format for non-technical branch staff

• Train counter/branch staff and sales reps on accessing dashboards and self-service reporting tools

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Business Analytics, or related field (or equivalent experience)

• Experience in a data/reporting analyst role, ideally within distribution, wholesale, or supply chain

• Proficiency in SQL (complex queries, joins across ERP tables)

• Experience with at least one BI tool (Power BI, Tableau, Qlik)

• Familiarity with distribution/wholesale ERP systems (Infor, or similar)

• Understanding of inventory management concepts (turns, fill rate, min/max, safety stock)

• Strong analytical skills with attention to detail on pricing/margin data

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with EDI transactions (850, 810, 856) used with manufacturers and big-box customers

• Understanding of HVAC industry seasonality and its impact on inventory/sales cycles

• Experience with rebate/incentive program reporting

• Knowledge of Power BI, Python, or advanced Excel (Power Query, Power Pivot)

• Experience supporting multi-branch/multi-warehouse operations
