Data Engineer

Purpose of your role 

The data engineer contributes to delivery of high quality data, including ingestion, maintenance, optimizations and solutions to support the data operations in OFX. Working across AWS and GCP, you will also be exposed to data ingestion, transformation, and warehousing. Working in an agile environment, you will implement solutions to appropriate standards and accepted best practices, working with guidance from senior engineers. On a day-to-day basis the data engineer is actively participating in the agile processes of the organization, positively contributing to discussions and team dynamics. The data engineer assists with developing appropriate testing and monitoring, as well as providing handover and technical escalation support.

What you do 

Your role will perform a range of data engineering tasks as part of a cross-functional data and insights team. Day to day you will:

• Create new data pipeline, maintain/debug existing data pipelines which pull data from a variety of source systems
• Work within a wider engineering team, adopting and contributing to best practices for software development and cloud architecture
• Work with guidance from senior engineers to diagnose and resolve any production issues which arise, communicating status updates to key stakeholders
• Identify opportunities continuous improvement to our systems and processes
• Develop appropriate testing and monitoring, as well as providing handover and technical escalation support

What you’ll bring 

• 5+ years of experience in data engineering, preferably in financial services, Fintech or similar industries.  
• Experienced in data warehouse technology (GCP Big Query preferable). 
• Cloud Messaging, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions, and Serverless SQL in either AWS or GCP.
• Conducting capacity planning, performance monitoring and tuning of relational databases. 
• Performing backup and recovery of corporate databases. 
• Contributing to the development of policies and procedures governing corporate database operations and related issues. 
• Experience working in a dynamic environment with the ability to learn and adapt quickly to new methodologies and technologies. 
• Proficient in SQL and an object-oriented language (Python and/or Java preferred). 
• Data modelling and data analysis experience.
