Data Engineer / SQL Developer (Cape Town)

Location: Cape Town (Hybrid / On-site depending on team requirements)
You will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining robust data solutions across SQL Server and Azure-based technologies. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working across the full data lifecycle — from data ingestion and transformation to reporting and analytics — while ensuring high performance, reliability, and scalability.
You will work closely with developers, analysts, and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality data solutions in a dynamic agile environment.
RequirementsWhat You’ll Be Doing
- Developing and optimising high-quality SQL code and database solutions
- Building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines using SSIS and Azure Data Factory
- Supporting and enhancing existing data workflows and reporting systems
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to translate requirements into technical solutions
- Ensuring data integrity, validation, and reliability across systems
- Working within an Agile SDLC environment
- Implementing CI/CD practices using Azure DevOps
- Troubleshooting and improving production data processes
- 5–10 years’ experience in SQL development, database engineering, and Microsoft data technologies
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- SQL Server (2016 or newer)
- SSIS, SSRS, SSAS
- Azure Data Factory
- Azure DevOps & CI/CD pipelines
- SQL Server (2016 or newer)
- Solid Power BI experience (reports, dashboards, semantic models)
- Strong understanding of SDLC and agile delivery environments
- Experience with data troubleshooting, optimisation, and performance tuning
- Strong scripting ability (advantageous)
- Azure Synapse Analytics
- Microsoft Fabric
- Logic Apps / PowerApps
- Advanced scripting (Python / PowerShell)
Skills Required
- 5-10 years' experience in SQL development and database engineering
- Strong experience with Azure technologies and tools
- Solid Power BI experience
- Strong understanding of SDLC and agile delivery environments
- Experience with data troubleshooting and optimisation
