Team / division overview

DWS Corporate Functions Technology provides technology solutions for key corporate functions including Finance, Risk, Asset and Liability Management, AFC and other control functions. This position sits within the SIMS application team. SIMS is a financial data warehouse used to deliver management KPIs, quarterly and annual reporting, and other business-critical reporting capabilities.

As a Data Engineer focused on Reporting and Analytics, you will work across two connected areas. The first is the current SIMS reporting landscape, where the focus will be on maintaining, enhancing, and optimising existing reporting capabilities. This includes delivering Private Pension Reform-related requirements, improving report performance, strengthening reporting datasets and supporting the rationalisation and migration of a large number of existing Cognos reports to Tableau or other modern reporting technologies.

The second area is more future-facing and will evolve as the target reporting architecture is implemented. This may include contributing to new reporting capabilities on Snowflake and modern BI technologies, either by building new reports directly on a cloud data platform or by taking a phased approach where existing SIMS/Cognos reports are first rationalized and migrated before being further evolved. The role therefore requires someone comfortable working with established reporting environments while also helping shape the move towards a more modern data and analytics platform.

Your responsibilities –

As a Data Engineer Reporting & Analytics, Associate, you will:

  • Delivering new reporting requirements for the SIMS application, including Private Pension Reform-related reporting changes.
  • Working with business stakeholders and business analysts to understand reporting requirements and translate them into scalable reporting solutions.
  • Maintaining, enhancing and optimising the existing SIMS reporting landscape, including reporting datasets, SQL queries, data models and report performance.
  • Supporting the rationalisation and migration of existing reports from legacy BI tooling to Tableau and other modern reporting technologies.
  • Helping redesign and simplify existing reports where appropriate, rather than simply recreating legacy reporting outputs in a new tool.
  • Building and enhancing data pipelines, reporting datasets and analytical data structures to support management KPIs, financial reporting and self-service analytics.
  • Supporting reporting governance, including data quality, lineage, provenance, controls and consistency of reporting outputs.
  • Working with the wider engineering team to ensure reporting solutions remain aligned with the application architecture, data architecture and broader technology standards.
  • Contributing to the evolution of the reporting architecture as the platform continues to modernise.

We are looking for

  • Degree, or equivalent qualification, in Computer Science, Business Information Technology, Engineering, Finance Technology or a related discipline.
  • Strong hands-on experience with relational databases, preferably Oracle, including SQL development, query optimisation and working with large datasets.
  • Strong understanding of reporting data models, analytical data structures and data warehouse concepts.
  • Experience building, maintaining or optimising ETL/ELT data pipelines that support reporting and analytics use cases.
  • Strong professional experience in Tableau development, including dashboards, reporting datasets and user-facing reporting solutions.
  • Knowledge of, or hands-on experience with, Cognos or other BI/reporting platforms is desirable.
  • Experience supporting reporting migration, report rationalisation or reporting modernisation initiatives would be advantageous.
  • Experience implementing self-service reporting capabilities, including associated design standards, access models and governance processes.
  • Understanding of data quality, data lineage, data provenance, reporting controls and consistency of reporting outputs.
  • Exposure to modern data platforms or cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake, BigQuery or similar technologies would be advantageous.
  • Understanding of financial reporting, management information, regulatory reporting or corporate functions data would be advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across business and technology teams.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain data and reporting topics clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Proven ability to leverage AI tools to enhance productivity, optimise workflows to solve business problems, while applying critical judgment to ensure responsible and ethical use of data and AI outputs.

What we’ll offer you:

At DWS we’re serious about diversity, equity and creating an inclusive culture where colleagues can be themselves and it’s important to us that you enjoy coming to work - feeling healthy, happy and rewarded. At DWS, you’ll have access to a range of benefits which you can choose from to create a personalised plan unique to your lifestyle. Whether you’re interested in healthcare, company perks, or are thinking about your retirement plan, there’s something for everyone.

DWS’ Hybrid Working model is designed to find the right balance between in-person collaboration and engagement in the office, which is core to our working culture, and working from home. Each business group varies on the split between time spent in the office and at home, but this will be discussed and made clear as part of your application and interview process. We will continue to review and evolve our working environments and methods to ensure that we are working in the best way possible for our people.

If you require any adjustments or changes to be made to the interview process for any reason including, or related to a disability or long-term health condition, then please contact your recruiter and let them know what assistance you may need. Examples of adjustments include providing a change to the format of the interview, or providing assistance when at the DWS office. This will not affect your application and your recruitment team will discuss options with you.

We at DWS are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace, one that embraces dialogue and diverse views, and treats everyone fairly to drive a high-performance culture. The value we create for our clients and investors is based on our ability to bring together various perspectives from all over the world and from different backgrounds. It is our experience that teams perform better and deliver improved outcomes when they are able to incorporate a wide range of perspectives. We call this #ConnectingTheDots.
