Overview
The Data Engineer will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable data solutions that support Catamaran’s digital outsourcing platform. This individual will focus on enabling data-driven insights, automation, and operational excellence through the implementation of modern data engineering practices. The role requires expertise in Microsoft Azure data services, enterprise-level data integration, and DevOps methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and optimize data pipelines and workflows within Azure Data Factory, ensuring reliable data ingestion, transformation, and delivery across multiple systems.
- Develop and maintain ETL/ELT processes to support the medallion data architecture (bronze, silver, gold layers) using Azure Data Lake, SQL, and related services.
- Work closely with solution and data architects to implement best practices for data modeling, data quality, and metadata management.
- Create and manage data integrations using APIs and JSON, enabling secure and scalable data exchange across internal and external platforms.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including analytics, applications, and DevOps—to ensure data solutions align with enterprise architecture and performance standards.
- Implement CI/CD pipelines and leverage source control tools (e.g., Git, Azure DevOps) for deployment and version control of data assets.
- Monitor and troubleshoot production data workflows to ensure reliability, data accuracy, and compliance with RSM’s information security standards.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of Catamaran’s data platform by identifying opportunities for automation, optimization, and innovation.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Technical Expertise:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
- 3+ years of experience in data engineering, with proven delivery in an enterprise or managed services environment.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Azure services, including Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL Database, Synapse, or Databricks.
- Advanced knowledge of SQL for query optimization, data modeling, and performance tuning.
- Experience working with REST APIs, JSON, and data ingestion frameworks for structured and semi-structured data.
- Understanding of medallion architecture and modern data design principles for scalable, reusable, and governed data products.
- Demonstrated experience with DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code (IaC) concepts, and source control.
- Familiarity with data governance, data security, and privacy standards, ideally within a regulated or client-service organization.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative and dynamic team environment.
- Experience working with data platforms that support AI and machine learning projects
- Ability to prepare data to be ready and usable for AI models.
- Familiarity with using smart automation tools to improve data performance and reliability.
