Our Unbabel division is looking for a Data Engineering Intern to join our team.
As a Data Engineering Intern, you’ll help design, build, and maintain the data infrastructure and pipelines that support Unbabel’s core products and analytics. This is a unique opportunity to learn how large-scale language and translation data is processed, stored, and analyzed in a real-world, production environment.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with data engineers and other technical teams to understand business requirements and deliver data solutions.
Assist in building, testing, and maintaining data pipelines (extraction, transformation, loading—ETL) and data integrations.
Help optimize the performance and reliability of our data workflows.
Contribute to the documentation of data architecture, pipelines, and processes.
Learn to work with structured and unstructured data from multiple sources.
Support data quality efforts—including monitoring, testing, and validation.
Participate in daily team standups, sprint planning, and code reviews.
Grow your skills in modern data tools, programming, and cloud technologies.
Must Have
Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Basic programming skills—preferably Python (or similar language).
Interest in data engineering, databases, cloud services, or big data.
Understanding of fundamental data structures and concepts (e.g. tables, schemas, SQL or basic database querying).
Curiosity and willingness to learn best practices in data engineering, data processing, and analytics.
Ability to communicate in English and work collaboratively in a team.
Eagerness to ask questions, seek feedback, and grow as an engineer.
Nice to Have
Exposure to data pipeline tools or frameworks (e.g., Airflow, dbt, Luigi).
Understanding of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).
Experience with data visualization or reporting (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker).
Previous participation in team projects (university, personal, open-source).
