Job Description
BAE Systems is seeking a Data Engineer to support our work as a prime contractor on a high-profile U.S. Navy weapon system. Serving as one of our Data Engineers, you will support a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, managers, technical writers, modelers and quality engineers in developing and implementing data analytic, visualization, and engineering solutions to support systems engineering functions across interface definition for current and future large-scale missile systems. This is a unique opportunity to be part of the team enabling our Nation's technological superiority on strategic missions through development of advanced concepts and initiatives throughout the systems lifecycle.
This position is both an internal and customer-facing position and responsible for supporting the roll out and implementation of new data engineering solutions to support Navy functions. In this role, you will plan and coordinate the preparation of project documentation, such as business process maps, training, job aids, schedules, and presentations, to ensure the data engineering solutions meet internal BAE Systems and customer requirements. You will engage with Navy customers and coordinate with the internal BAE Systems technical team to design, implement, and tailor the developed solutions that may be based on Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) or Government Off-The-Shelf (GOTS) technology. In this position, you will perform data engineering, data pipeline building, business process mapping, technical analysis, trade studies, research, development, and test and evaluation to enable quality management and business process system implementation. You will help resolve issues and make recommendations regarding enhanced capabilities for the proposed COTS /GOTS data engineering solutions. You will analyze proposed changes of product design to determine effect on overall product and system and coordinate modification for management control.
About BAE Systems and the U.S. Navy's Strategic Systems Programs (SSP)
Our organization has supported the U.S. Navy's Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) continually since the program's inception in the 1950s. SSP developed the first sea-based, underwater-launched Strategic Weapon System (SWS), a defense system that is truly critical to our national security. For more than six decades, SSP has maintained and upgraded this weapon system, and we have been there every step of the way. The sea-based SWS is the ultimate stealthy weapon system and is the first leg of the U.S. nuclear triad. With over 70% of our nation's nuclear arsenal its importance for maintaining world peace cannot be overstated. The development of Columbia, the most advanced nuclear-powered, nuclear-armed submarine ever designed, as well the next D5LE2 weapon system is under way and will begin to be rolled out over the next decade. The Navy projects this system to be operational through 2084, meaning the program will have a total life span of more than 120 years. This is a unique program and BAE Systems employees on this program understand they are part of an important legacy.
As a decades long sole source partner on multiple contracts on behalf of our customer, our program has remarkable stability and is concurrently experiencing significant growth. Combined, these factors provide ample opportunity for professional growth and development for capable and talented individuals on our team.
