POSITION PURPOSE

The Data Developer Specialist (Data Engineer) is responsible for product development within the data management space to support strategic initiatives and ongoing business requirements for Trinity Health.  This position requires advanced technical skills to design, develop code, and test complex data transformations to build the data assets in current and emerging technologies. This role requires a fair understanding of the healthcare business and datasets. The Data Engineer will manage individual projects and lead technical discussions to produce scalable products that meet business needs.  This position collaborates with cross-functional teams including business stakeholders to ensure product development/delivery meets TIS/data engineering best practice standards and adheres to the governance model.  This role will mentor fellow Junior Data Engineers in helping to create a sustainable data warehouse ecosystem and propose best practice standards to support and improve the data migration life cycle.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides leadership on technical projects, assignments, and analysis. Develop complex ETL/ELT orchestration to integrate and build data assets for analytics.
  • This position is a key role with the Data Engineering team to lead and contribute to building scalable products that support Trinity Health's strategic vision/growth and business community.
  • Develop functional requirements for product development.
  • Develop Azure pipelines/Dataflow/copy/ for data migration in the cloud.
  • Develop Informatica workflow, stored procedure, and complex SQL for data migration and validation work.
  • Performance tuning of complex codes, and ETL/ELT orchestration to improve run time.
  • Develop Shell scripts and logic apps to support ETL/ELT orchestration.
  • Translate business requirements to functional requirements and design scalable products.
  • Assist with UAT, issue triage, and production deployment.
  • Experience with scheduling tools, e.g., Control-m, Azure Scheduler, Airflow, etc.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Works in teams and a self-directed work environment.
  • Participate and lead peer reviews of solution designs and related code reviews.
  • Works closely with the PMO to estimate the level of effort for proposed projects.
  • Complies with TIS/DE standards and procedures related to development activities (e.g., coding standards, version control, change management, etc.).
  • Continues to develop data transformation skills by researching new technologies and best practices.
  • Creates and maintains technical documentation for data transformation procedures.
  • Works closely with architects ensuring implementation of ETL best practices and designs.
  • Reinforces the vision and direction of the Enterprise Informatics Organization.
  • Initiates opportunities to learn and grow.  Handles multiple demands, shifting priorities, crises, and rapid changes.
  • Cultivates working relationships within the Informatics Organization and with the business units that are positive, professional, and collaborative.

  • pay grade 15 range 96,319.82-144,479.7275  Actual compensation will fall within the range but may vary based on factors such as experience, qualifications, education, location, licensure, certification requirements, and comparisons to colleagues in similar roles.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare or information technology or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years' experience in Information Technology of which five (5) years' experience working as a Data Developer/Engineer in a large data warehouse and business intelligence environment.
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience working with data development technologies such as Informatica, Data Stage, ADF, and Databricks.
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience writing and performance tuning of advanced SQL.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Azure Cloud, fabric tools, and cloud technologies.
  • Minimum of five (5+) years of experience writing and tuning stored procedures and advanced SQL (experience with NoSQL, Spark SQL a plus).
  • Advanced knowledge of Python, Spark, Docker, and Azure cloud services.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare nomenclature, and EPIC EMR knowledge is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of database systems (Teradata, Oracle, and SQL Server), and data modeling methodologies including STAR, Snowflake, and 3NF.
  • Strong proficiency in leading technical projects, assignments, and analysis.
  • Experience working with multiple healthcare business disciplines including Operations, Finance, Clinical, and Administration.
  • Excellent organization, analytical, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • This position operates in a typical office environment.  The area is well-lit, temperature-controlled and free from hazards. 
  • Incumbent communicates frequently, in person and over the telephone, with people in a number of different locations on technical issues. 
  • Manual dexterity is needed in order to operate a keyboard. 
  • Hearing is needed for extensive telephone and in person communications. 
  • The environment in which the incumbent will work requires the ability to concentrate, meet deadlines, work on several projects at the same period and adapt to interruptions.
  • The incumbent must be capable of traveling in the course of completing project assignments. 
  • Ability to meet established deadlines.
