The Group: Morningstar Indexes Team leverages its expertise in equity research, manager research, asset allocation, and portfolio construction to create innovative investment solutions. It uses Morningstar`s intellectual property to create indexes that empower investors' success at every stage of the investment process - market monitoring, benchmarking, and asset allocation. The unit offers a broad suite of global equity, bond, commodity and asset allocation indexes.
The Role: Morningstar Indexes seeks an intelligent and creative professional for its Indexes Data Operations team. The primary function of the team is to source, validate and maintain input data for the index portfolios covering reference data, market data, corporate actions and other attributes that define a security, across different asset class like Equity, Fixed Income and ESG. The team is also responsible for handling data acquisition and production automation. We are looking for a content researcher individual contributor with expertise in ESG data/metrics & EU taxonomy. A sound knowledge about sourcing, maintaining and validating input data around - Climate Risk, Carbon Emissions, Women empowerment etc. would be an added advantage. This is a mid-level role in the individual contributor career track, corresponding to an ATL/TL in the people manager track. This position will be in Vashi, Navi Mumbai (India).
Responsibilities:
- Serve as an ESG data expert for a broad universe of global companies
- Understand and further their expertise on Morningstar indexes' sustainability product offerings, including methodology criteria and data needs
- Work closely with multiple global teams across various functions to ensure that indexes team gets the required data in time to support the product roadmap
- Stay up to date with developments in sustainable, environmental, and social activities, including current and emerging trends, drivers, key players, best practices, the regulatory landscape, etc.
- Ensure appropriate methods and techniques to improve and maintain the highest quality standards in the data collected/ingested by the team
- Develop indexes ESG dashboards and metrics
- Provides coaching and training to junior team members as appropriate and according to the specific needs of the person and the group.
- Provide floor support by answering questions, solving issues that come up throughout the day
- Work with technology teams in the role of UAT/Business Owner to complete the design of ESG data ingestion processes and tools.
Requirements:
- At-least 3-5 years' experience building or maintaining ESG data at a sustainability research firm or data provider
- Basic understanding of the regulatory framework around ESG as applicable to index providers
- Basic to Intermediate level of knowledge in working with databases (SQL) and willingness to grow that skill
- Good analytical skills to research and analyze information to aid in decision making
- Ability to create and maintain SOP's and documentation on the datasets being used
- Good inter-personal and stakeholder interaction skills to negotiate and obtain best outcomes for indexes teams requirements
Desired Candidate Profile
- Bachelor/Master's degree in finance/business with an exceptional academic record
- Professional degree or CFA preferred
- 3+ years of professional work experience at specialist/senior/principal/lead analyst
- Strong communication skills, people and project management skills
- Interested in financial research and passionate about ESG investing and growing in the passive investing space
- Team player
