Forterro is building the next generation of its enterprise data platform, and we're looking for a hands-on Data Engineer to help us do it.
We're moving away from our existing SQL Server and Azure Data Factory architecture and building a new centralised data platform in Databricks. You'll join at an important point in that journey, helping us ingest, transform and structure data from across Forterro and create reliable data pipelines that support reporting, analytics and wider business use cases.
This isn't a traditional BI or reporting role. We're looking for someone who is comfortable working directly in Databricks, can code confidently in SQL and Python, and has practical experience building and working with data pipelines.
You'll work closely with colleagues across IT, Data and the wider business, with a particular focus on data originating from enterprise systems such as NetSuite and Salesforce. Previous exposure to financial/ERP or CRM data would therefore be particularly useful.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain reliable data pipelines within Databricks.
- Use SQL and Python to ingest, transform, clean and structure data from multiple source systems.
- Integrate data from enterprise applications into Forterro's central data environment.
- Develop data models and reusable data assets that support reporting, analytics and business decision-making.
- Work with data from systems such as ERP/financial platforms and CRM applications.
- Translate business and technical requirements into practical data engineering solutions.
- Monitor and resolve data quality issues, helping ensure data is accurate, consistent and reliable.
- Work collaboratively with data engineers and colleagues across IT, reporting and analytics.
- Follow the engineering standards, methodologies and conventions established across Forterro's data engineering function.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Most importantly, you'll have hands-on commercial experience with Databricks. We're looking for someone who can come into the role already comfortable working with the platform rather than needing to learn it from scratch.
You'll also bring:
- Practical experience working with Databricks and data engineering pipelines.
- Strong SQL skills.
- Practical Python coding experience.
- Experience ingesting, transforming and preparing data from multiple source systems.
- An understanding of data modelling and good data engineering practices.
- Experience investigating and resolving data quality or integration issues.
- The ability to work with both technical colleagues and business stakeholders.
- A practical, organised approach to solving data problems and managing priorities.
Desirable experience
You don't need to have worked with every system we use. However, we'd particularly value experience with:
- NetSuite or another financial accounting/ERP platform, particularly working with its data or reporting.
- Salesforce or another CRM platform such as Microsoft Dynamics 365 or HubSpot.
- Data reporting or analytics alongside your core engineering experience.
- Broader exposure to data ingestion, data wrangling, data science or machine learning.
- French language is also a bonus but not mandatory.
