Applied Research Solutions (ARS) is seeking a skilled Data Architect to support the design, integration, and optimization of enterprise data architectures for a large-scale digital transformation initiative. The successful candidate will work alongside system architects and engineering teams to define how data is structured, stored, processed, and exchanged across applications and enterprise systems. This role will ensure scalable, efficient, and interoperable data solutions that enable mission success in a high-assurance environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design and oversee data architecture for enterprise applications, ensuring efficient data flow within applications and across integrated systems.
  • Collaborate with system architects and software engineering teams to define data models, interfaces, and integration strategies that support evolving mission requirements.
  • Review proposed architectural changes to identify opportunities for improved data sharing, reuse, and interoperability across the enterprise.
  • Develop logical and physical data architectures that support scalable, maintainable, and secure solutions.
  • Evaluate how data is collected, processed, stored, and exchanged to ensure optimal performance and long-term sustainability.
  • Define best practices for application-to-application communication, including REST-based APIs and other integration mechanisms.
  • Provide technical guidance on structured and unstructured data management, including relational and NoSQL data stores.
  • Develop prototypes or proof-of-concept solutions when necessary to validate architectural approaches.
  • Participate in technical design reviews and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure architectural decisions align with program objectives.
  • Support enterprise modernization efforts by identifying opportunities to improve data accessibility, consistency, and governance.

Qualifications/ Technical Experience Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 4–6 years of experience designing or implementing data architectures, enterprise integrations, or distributed software systems.
  • Experience with relational databases (SQL) and NoSQL database technologies.
  • Understanding of structured and unstructured data storage solutions.
  • Experience designing or working with RESTful APIs and application integration patterns.
  • Ability to develop prototype applications or proof-of-concept solutions using one or more modern programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, C#, or Go.
  • Experience collaborating with software developers, architects, and technical stakeholders throughout the system development lifecycle.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate complex data flow scenarios.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting DoD, Federal Government, or other highly regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with enterprise architecture frameworks and modern cloud-based data architectures.
  • Experience designing scalable data integration solutions for large, distributed systems.
  • Knowledge of data governance, metadata management, and data quality best practices.
  • Experience working in Agile software development environments.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical architecture concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
