The Role

The Data Architect Manager is a critical player-coach role that combines hands-on technical leadership with strategic management responsibilities in a SaaS B2B environment. This position involves actively contributing to projects as a Senior Data Architect while leading and mentoring a team of highly qualified Data Architects. This person is responsible for providing informed thought leadership and partnership on data strategy, data management, data performance, and data analytics and architecture. As a player-coach, this person will be responsible for improving the maturity of the business' data capabilities, and shaping the company's data landscape, ensuring alignment with business objectives and fostering innovation in data management practices.
Starting base pay for this role is between $146,915 and $175,000. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as transferable skills, work experience, business needs, training, location, and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role will be eligible for a bonus as well as competitive medical, dental, and vision benefits, wellness reimbursement, life insurance, and a 401(k) with company match. We offer vacation and sick leave benefits (under a flexible time off policy in most states).
Responsibilities

  • Serves as both a hands-on practitioner and team leader, actively participating in complex data architecture projects while guiding and mentoring team members.
  • Responsible for daily performance management of team members, including performing team member review, evaluation, and compensation processes.
  • Develops and owns the vision around data as part of the business growth strategy, balancing high-level planning with practical implementation.
  • Leads a team of Data Architects with diverse skills in a SaaS B2B environment, fostering their professional growth and ensuring high-quality deliverables.
  • Manages direct and indirect resources effectively, leveraging project management skills to navigate a large, diverse IT environment.
  • Develops and maintains enterprise-wide data architecture standards, guidelines, and best practices, implementing them firsthand in key projects.
  • Defines and implements analytics strategy for expanding platform capabilities, devising data strategy for scale, reporting/analytics for current and future solutions.
  • Identifies and pursues commercial opportunities by developing data sources, methods, tools, and models that drive action to optimize revenue, taking a hands-on role in proof-of-concept development.
  • Designs and implements standards and assurance processes to ensure compatibility of data connections, flows, and storage requirements.
  • Leads initiatives to commercialize data into scalable solutions, leveraging the team's expertise and industry best practices.
  • Conducts and guides exploratory data analysis employing large data sets, visualizations, and advanced analytics techniques using tools such as SQL, Python, Tableau, and Power BI.
  • Effectively communicates the status, value, and importance of data initiatives to the executive team and staff, bridging the gap between technical details and business impact.
  • Stays current with industry efforts and disruptive technologies, championing and piloting solutions to position the company as an industry leader in the SaaS B2B space.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in a SaaS B2B environment, with 3+ years in a data leadership role.
  • Proven experience in managing both direct and indirect resources.
  • Strong project management skills with a track record of navigating large, diverse IT environments.
  • Prior experience in commercializing data into scalable solutions.
  • Proficiency in data analytics tools and technologies, including SQL, Python, Tableau, Power BI, or similar.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to various audiences.
  • Demonstrated expertise in data modeling, database design, and data integration techniques, with the ability to both perform and guide these activities.
  • Strong knowledge of big data technologies, cloud platforms, and data governance principles, including hands-on experience implementing solutions in a SaaS environment.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications such as TOGAF, CDMP, or cloud platform certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Hands-on experience with data science and machine learning technologies and methodologies in a SaaS context.
  • Knowledge of industry-specific regulations and compliance requirements relevant to B2B SaaS (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, SOC 2).
  • Track record of identifying and personally developing commercial opportunities from existing datasets across B2B solutions and markets.
