THE ROLE
We are seeking a dynamic Data Applications Manager to lead our enterprise integration and specialized systems initiatives. In this role, you'll drive the strategy and execution of our system integration capabilities, operational reporting solutions, and business-critical data applications. As organizations increasingly rely on connected systems and real-time data, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring our data ecosystem efficiently serves operational business needs while maintaining high standards of reliability and data quality.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Strategic Leadership
- Drive the vision and roadmap for enterprise system integration and data applications while ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and technology strategy.
- Partner with business stakeholders to understand operational needs and translate them into technical solutions that drive measurable business value.
- Lead initiatives to modernize and optimize business-critical data systems while maintaining operational stability and reliability.
- Balance strategic initiatives with day-to-day operational needs through effective prioritization and resource allocation.
- Technical Leadership
- Define and implement architecture standards across system integration and data applications, establishing robust patterns for near real-time and batch data movement while creating comprehensive frameworks for monitoring and optimization.
- Lead the development of best practices for operational reporting including dashboard design, metric definitions, and automated delivery mechanisms.
- Implement robust quality assurance processes that include systematic testing, thorough documentation, clear audit trails, and comprehensive change management procedures.
- Partner with Data Engineering teams to align technical requirements, optimize data models for operational use cases, and ensure seamless integration between systems.
- Actively participate in technical design and code reviews, providing hands-on guidance and maintaining strong technical involvement in key initiatives.
- Lead by example in developing proof-of-concepts and technical prototypes for critical integration patterns.
- Technical Execution & Hands-on Skills
- Demonstrate hands-on proficiency in building and maintaining data pipelines using modern orchestration tools and frameworks.
- Develop and implement integration patterns using both open-source and commercial tools, showing strong coding capabilities.
- Build and optimize real-time data processing workflows using streaming technologies and message brokers.
- Create and maintain infrastructure-as-code for deployment and configuration of integration solutions.
- Leverage existing monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions for mission-critical data applications.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across various integration patterns and systems.
- Operational Excellence
- Lead the development and maintenance of mission-critical data applications while ensuring high availability and performance standards are met.
- Establish and maintain comprehensive SLAs for operational systems and reporting that align with business requirements and technical capabilities.
- Drive efficient system integration and data movement across the enterprise through standardized processes and automated workflows.
- Implement proactive monitoring and alerting systems for business-critical processes to ensure early detection and resolution of issues.
- Ensure continuous improvement of operational efficiency through regular system reviews and optimization initiatives.
- Team & Stakeholder Management
- Build and lead high-performing teams focused on integration and specialized systems while fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
- Drive efficient cross-functional collaboration with business and technical teams through clear communication channels and established processes.
- Manage relationships with system owners and business stakeholders through regular engagement and transparent project management.
- Balance competing priorities and resource allocation through structured evaluation frameworks and clear decision-making processes.
- Create and maintain clear escalation paths for operational issues while ensuring appropriate coverage and response times.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
- 8+ years of experience in data engineering, systems integration, or related technical roles.
- 3+ years of experience managing technical teams and stakeholder relationships.
- Strong understanding of enterprise integration patterns and architectures.
- Proven hands-on technical expertise demonstrated through:
- Direct experience writing production-grade Python code for data integration.
- Development of complex SQL queries and stored procedures.
- Implementation of real-time streaming solutions.
- Creation of automated testing frameworks.
- Building CI/CD pipelines for data applications.
- Active hands-on experience with at least two of the following categories:
- Open source integration tools (Airflow, NiFi, Airbyte) - must show code samples.
- Message brokers and streaming platforms (Kafka, Pulsar, RabbitMQ) - with hands-on implementation experience.
- Commercial ETL/ELT platforms (Fivetran, Talend) - including custom operator development.
- iPaaS solutions (MuleSoft, Boomi, Workato) - including custom connector development.
- Demonstrated ability to:
- Debug complex integration issues across multiple systems.
- Write performant code for large-scale data processingImplement robust error handling and recovery mechanisms.
- Design and implement data quality validation frameworks.
- Experience with cloud data platforms and warehouses.
- Track record of delivering complex technical solutions in a business environment.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant field.
- Experience with modern integration tools and frameworks:
- Open-source ETL frameworks (Apache Hop, Luigi)Data transformation tools (dbt) CDC platforms (Debezium).
- Reverse ETL solutions (Census, Hightouch) GraphQL, and API management platforms.
- Knowledge of emerging data architecture patterns (Data Mesh, Data Contracts).
- Experience implementing event-driven architectures.
- Understanding of data governance and compliance requirements.
- Background in workflow automation and low-code integration platforms.
- Experience with change management in enterprise environments.
- Proven success in implementing and managing operational reporting solutions.
