Position Overview

TopBuild is a highly acquisitive company, having been growing rapidly since its IPO in 2015. The company grew from $1.7B to $5.2B in 2023 and aspires to continue to grow over the next several years.

As part of our commitment to supporting business growth through scalable solutions and fostering a data-driven culture, we are seeking a Data Analytics Engineer to lead the transformation of how data is leveraged across the organization. This role will be pivotal in shaping the company’s analytics capabilities by designing and implementing comprehensive data strategies, integrating advanced reporting tools, and enhancing data pipeline performance.

This position offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with business leaders to streamline financial and operational reporting processes, deliver reporting and analytics solutions that meet users where they are, and teach the business how to leverage newer technologies. A key objective will be to deliver faster, more accurate data insights by leveraging the right technology for each scenario, regardless of whether the consumption medium is digital or paper-based, while improving user access through tools like Power Apps, Power Automate, and Excel integration.

The ideal candidate will bring technical expertise, business acumen, and a customer-centric approach to deliver impactful analytics solutions that empower smarter decision-making. Job Description

The Data Analytics Engineer will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining end-to-end business intelligence solutions. This role focuses on transforming raw data from various enterprise systems into actionable insights. It involves integrating data from multiple sources, including Oracle ERP, OneStream, Workday, and spreadsheets, into an Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse (ADW). The engineer will develop robust ETL/ELT processes, create semantic data models, and design data pipelines to support dynamic and interactive reporting using Power BI and MS Excel, leveraging Power Apps and Power Automate for enhanced automation and end-user functionality.

Key Requirements Summary

  • Expertise in designing and optimizing data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes for Oracle ADW and various data sources, including Oracle ERP, OneStream, and Workday.
  • Proficiency in Power BI for developing semantic data models, dataflows, and interactive visualizations.
  • Experience with Excel-based reporting, Power Apps, and Power Automate for enhancing report extraction and automation.
  • Strong knowledge of data governance, security, and collaboration with stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver tailored analytics solutions.
  • Familiarity with modern cloud-based frameworks for data integration, such as Azure Data Factory or Snowflake (preferred but not required).

Key Responsibilities

Data Integration and ETL/ELT Development

  • Design, develop, and optimize data pipelines to extract, transform, and load data from Oracle ERP, OneStream, Workday, and other data sources into Oracle ADW.
  • Implement efficient ETL/ELT processes to ensure data quality, integrity, and performance.
  • Continuously monitor and enhance the performance of data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes to drive faster and more accurate data availability for reporting.

Data Modeling and Semantic Layer Design

  • Create semantic data models in Power BI for robust and scalable reporting solutions.
  • Develop and maintain dataflows, datasets, and calculated columns/measures using DAX and M languages.

Reporting and Visualization

  • Build dynamic and visually compelling dashboards and reports in Power BI to drive data-driven decision-making across financial and operational areas.
  • Develop and maintain Excel-based reporting solutions, including pivot tables and custom reports, leveraging Power BI datasets.
  • Utilize Power Apps and Power Automate to enhance user interactions, streamline workflows, and enable end-users to easily extract reports into MS Excel.

Data Management and Governance

  • Ensure compliance with data governance, security, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with database administrators to optimize data warehouse performance.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with business stakeholders, finance teams, and IT to gather requirements, design solutions, and deliver analytics products that meet business needs.
  • Provide expertise on data structure, report design, and analytic best practices, including strategies for data normalization, optimizing report performance, and implementing effective data visualizations.

This role will be at the forefront of transforming how data is leveraged across the organization, enabling smarter decisions, improving efficiencies, and driving meaningful business outcomes

Professional Experience/Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in data analytics, data engineering, or BI development.
  • Proficiency in Power BI, Oracle ADW, SQL, and DAX/M language.
  • Experience in building ETL/ELT pipelines using tools like Oracle Data Integrator (ODI), SQL Developer, or equivalent, and familiarity with modern cloud-based frameworks such as Azure Data Factory or Snowflake (preferred but not required).
  • Desired familiarity with Oracle ERP (financial and operational modules) and data sources like OneStream, Workday, and Excel.
  • Knowledge of data warehouse design, dimensional modeling, and data architecture best practices.
  • Experience in integrating Power BI with Oracle ADW and delivering data-driven solutions consumed through Power BI, Excel, Power Apps, and Power Automate.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in cross-functional teams.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field

Work is performed in a typical office environment and may require standing, bending, lifting boxes or packages under 10 lbs., and sitting for long periods of time.

Work requires regularly inputting/retrieving words or data into or from an automated/computer system.
