The Data Analyst supports institutional operations and administrative decision-making through the collection, preparation, analysis, reporting, and visualization of data from enterprise systems and operational data sources. Working under the guidance of senior data and information technology staff, the position transforms data into actionable information that supports planning, management, compliance reporting, and operational effectiveness across the Institute.
The Data Analyst assists in developing reports, dashboards, visualizations, and analytical products that help leadership and departments make informed decisions. The position supports data governance initiatives, data quality improvement efforts, metadata management, and reporting processes while ensuring compliance with institutional policies related to privacy, security, and data stewardship.
The position serves as a collaborative partner with administrative and academic units to improve data accessibility, reporting capabilities, and business processes through effective use of institutional data resources.

Job Description:

Required Qualifications  

Education  

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Statistics, Finance, Public Administration, Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics, or a related quantitative field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.  

Experience  

  • Experience working with structured data, spreadsheets, reports, or administrative datasets through academic, professional, internship, or applied project experience.  
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel or similar tools for data analysis and reporting.  
  • Experience organizing, validating, and documenting information from multiple data sources.  

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities  

  • Knowledge of basic analytical and quantitative methods.  
  • Ability to collect, organize, validate, and analyze data from multiple sources.  
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.  
  • Ability to identify trends, inconsistencies, and opportunities for process improvement.  
  • Ability to communicate analytical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.  
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.  
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.

Education  

  • Master's degree in Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Information Systems, Statistics, Public Administration, Higher Education Administration, or related field.  

Experience  

  • Experience using Power BI, Tableau, SQL, Microsoft Fabric, or similar business intelligence and reporting tools.  
  • Experience working with administrative, financial, human resources, student, research administration, or enterprise resource planning (ERP) data.  
  • Experience in higher education, research institutions, government, nonprofit organizations, or similarly complex organizations.  
  • Experience developing dashboards, reports, visualizations, and performance metrics.  
  • Experience supporting data governance or data quality initiatives.  

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities  

  • Familiarity with data dictionaries, metadata management, and data governance concepts.  
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis, forecasting, and business intelligence methodologies.  
  • Familiarity with SQL query development and relational databases.  
  • Knowledge of data visualization best practices.  
  • Understanding of institutional reporting and decision-support processes.  

Salary: Up to $70, 000 commensurate with experience

 

Conditions of Employment  

  • This position is funded through continuing Educational & General (E&G) funds and is not term-limited.  
  • Hybrid work arrangement may be available in accordance with university and departmental policies.  
  • This position is not designated as safety-sensitive.  
  • This position is not designated as essential personnel during emergency operations.  

  

Duties and Responsibilities  

Operational and Administrative Data Analysis & Reporting – 45%  

  • Analyze operational and administrative datasets to support institutional planning, reporting, and decision-making.  
  • Develop recurring and ad hoc reports, dashboards, visualizations, and analytical products.  
  • Create summaries, trend analyses, performance indicators, and decision-support materials.  
  • Review report outputs for completeness, consistency, and accuracy.  
  • Present findings and recommendations in formats appropriate for both technical and non-technical audiences.  
  • Support leadership, departments, and project teams by responding to data and reporting requests.  

Data Collection, Preparation, and Quality Assurance – 30%  

  • Collect, compile, clean, validate, and organize data from enterprise systems, databases, spreadsheets, and other institutional sources.  
  • Perform data quality reviews and identify inconsistencies, duplicates, missing values, and formatting issues.  
  • Support data reconciliation, transformation, and integration activities.  
  • Maintain analytical datasets and documentation in accordance with departmental standards.  
  • Apply established quality assurance procedures to improve data reliability and usability.  
  • Maintain reproducible analytical workflows and supporting documentation.  

Data Query, Dashboard, and Reporting Tool Support – 20%  

  • Develop and maintain basic queries, reports, dashboards, forms, and analytical tools.  
  • Assist with testing and validation of new or modified reporting solutions.  
  • Gather and document business requirements for reporting and dashboard development.  
  • Support maintenance of reporting assets and analytical products.  
  • Assist end users in understanding available reports, metrics, and data resources.  
  • Develop repeatable procedures and documentation supporting effective use of institutional data tools.  

Other Duties – 5%  

  • Participate in special projects and institutional initiatives.  
  • Support continuous improvement efforts related to data management and reporting.  
  • Attend training and professional development activities.  
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
