Newsweek is hiring a Data Analyst to join a growing team in India.
The Data Analyst is responsible for collecting, processing, and analyzing diverse datasets to support the city ranking methodology. This role ensures data quality, consistency, and relevance, providing the analytical foundation for the project’s outputs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the creation of the rankings database, including design of data structures and the master data management approach.
- Collect, load, transform, and analyze datasets (economic, environmental, survey, etc.).
- Filter and sort data to support the ranking process.
- Write code to transform data within the rankings data architecture
- Support desk research and expert panel analysis with quantitative insights.
- Ensure data quality and consistency across all geographies and sources.
- Prepare data for editorial and reporting outputs, including visualizations and tables.
- Document data processes and methodologies for transparency and reproducibility.
Main Deliverables:
- Cleaned and analyzed datasets ready for ranking.
- Ranking tables and relevant code.
- Technical documentation of data processes and methodologies.
Collaboration & Integration:
- Works closely with the Researcher and wider R&R team to validate data and incorporate qualitative insights.
- Supports the Project Manager with data-driven updates and risk identification.
- Collaborates with editorial teams to ensure data is presented accurately.
Required skills
- Analytical mindset
- Ability to identify data quality issues
- Good SQL skills within a Postgres or similar database
- Data science coding experience (for example in R or Python)
- Ability to communicate data insights to non-technical team members
