Job Description
This role is part of the Oils and Chemicals Data Team and will work closely with our Research, Data and Product functions. The data team builds, enhances, and maintains the data that underpins Wood Mackenzie’s unique understanding of the energy and natural resources sectors. Data is the key driver behind Wood Mackenzie’s mission to transform the way we power the planet, and the role will be working on challenges around data management, pipelines, analysis, and data quality.
The role will be called on to implement processes that monitor data quality, and devise means to resolve identified issues. Strong technical skills will be required to support this work, as you’ll be responsible for production processes that directly impact our users.
Main Responsibilities
- Form a strong understanding of the data landscape, domain and workflows for oils and chemicals, customers, and products
- Core user of oils and chemicals data and ensures best practices are applied to utilize or maintain databases, tools, models, and processes solutions from data sourcing to client delivery
- Provide specialist skills in data analysis, visualization, and data management, delivering new analytics through connected datasets and integrated pipelines
- Advocate for quality, take responsibility for the ownership of data and fulfil complex data requests on time and with high standards
- Identify, prioritize, and document opportunities for efficiency, optimization, migration or improvement in our systems, processes, and datasets
- Collaborate with colleagues in Research, Data, Product and Engineering to deliver Data Assets while supporting junior colleagues
- Lead high-priority projects and initiatives aimed at improving data quality or processes, ensuring alignment with the broader data vision
- Collaborate with junior colleagues, providing training, monitoring adherence to best practices, and ensuring accurate completion of tasks
- Develop relationships with key stakeholders across the wider Data team, including Data Engineers, Product, Research, and Sales
Qualifications:
- Experience in data related roles, demonstrating customer focus and knowledge of core concepts around ingestion, cleansing, and data quality
- Comfort and experience with SQL, Python, and other programming languages to traverse large data sets.
- Strong skills in relational database systems
- Expert skills in a data visualization package (such as PowerBI)
- Strong communication skills – particularly the ability to work in a сross regional team and interact with colleagues and external contacts in multiple geographic locations
- Experience developing logic, models, or algorithms to solve complex mathematical problems.
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, problem solving, and time management skills with attention to detail
- Proven ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment, to manage multiple tasks and/or projects with changing priorities and to communicate effectively at all levels
- Ability to balance independent and team-based work
- Creative and innovative problem-solving skills
- A self-starter who takes initiative, asks questions, and is eager to learn
