Martenson, Hasbrouck & Simon LLP is seeking a full-time experienced Data Analyst to join the Firm’s data analytics team in Orange County. The Data Analyst will develop and execute analyses that address complex legal and business questions, identify meaningful patterns and issues in data, and support the development of data-driven recommendations and strategies.
This role goes beyond traditional litigation support and requires an analyst who can independently work with large and complex datasets, identify meaningful trends and issues, develop analytical methodologies, build reporting and visualization solutions, and clearly communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences. The ideal candidate combines strong quantitative and technical skills with intellectual curiosity, sound judgment, and the ability to understand the business and legal questions underlying an analysis. This position will report to the Senior Data Analyst and work as part of the Firm’s broader data analytics function.

Key Responsibilities:
- Collect, clean, integrate, analyze, and validate large and complex datasets from a variety of sources.
- Use SQL and Python to query, transform, reconcile, and analyze data and develop repeatable analytical workflows.
- Design and develop interactive dashboards, reports, and data visualizations in Power BI to communicate key findings, trends, and metrics.
- Translate legal, business, and operational questions into appropriate analytical approaches in collaboration with attorneys and the data analytics team.
- Develop analytical methodologies and models to evaluate potential exposure, damages, trends, patterns, and other issues relevant to litigation and client decision-making.
- Investigate data anomalies, identify gaps or limitations in available information, and reconcile discrepancies across multiple data sources.
- Analyze employment-related data, including timekeeping, payroll, HRIS, scheduling, and other operational systems, in connection with wage and hour and other employment matters.
- Support analyses involving class certification, damages, sampling, pay practices, timekeeping practices, and other litigation-related issues as needed.
- Develop clear, defensible approaches for working with incomplete, inconsistent, or complex datasets and document analytical assumptions, processes, and findings.
- Identify opportunities to improve, automate, and standardize existing analytical and reporting processes.
- Prepare clear written summaries, presentations, dashboards, and other deliverables that effectively communicate analytical findings and support attorney and client decision-making.
- Manage analytical work across multiple matters, balancing competing deadlines and shifting priorities while exercising independent judgment regarding analytical approach and execution.

Salary Range: $75,000 - $95,000 depending on experience.

Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in data analytics, data science, statistics, economics, computer science, mathematics, or another quantitative or analytical discipline.
- 3+ years of relevant experience.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and Python, including experience using both to manipulate, analyze, and validate complex datasets.
- Strong proficiency with Power BI or comparable business intelligence and data visualization tools, with Power BI experience strongly preferred.
- Experience working with relational databases and combining information from multiple data sources.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with large, complex, incomplete, or imperfect datasets and determine appropriate approaches for addressing data limitations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to move from an open-ended question to a structured and defensible analytical approach.
- Ability to identify patterns, anomalies, inconsistencies, and other meaningful findings within complex datasets.
- Familiarity with AI and generative AI tools, including the ability to thoughtfully incorporate them into analytical, research, and workflow automation processes while appropriately evaluating outputs for accuracy and reliability.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical findings clearly to non-technical audiences.
- Excellent organizational and project-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, competing deadlines, and shifting priorities.
- High degree of professionalism, discretion, initiative, and independent judgment, particularly when working with confidential or sensitive information.
- Prior experience in a law firm, litigation support, consulting, or other professional-services environment is preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with employment data or wage and hour concepts—including payroll, timekeeping, overtime, meal/rest periods, regular rate, rounding, and related issues—is helpful but not required.
