Introduction to the job
We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Algorithm Engineer with deep expertise in image processing and computer vision, who can act as a senior individual contributor and drive algorithm development for complex industrial imaging applications.
This role focuses on technical ownership rather than people management. The ideal candidate has experience tackling challenging imaging problems—such as fingerprint recognition, optical inspection, PCB defect detection, machine vision, or autonomous driving perception—and is capable of shaping algorithm direction, collaborating across domains, and delivering production‑level solutions.
Experience with E-Beam is not required. We value strong algorithmic thinking, industrial problem‑solving ability, and the capability to influence technical outcomes.
Work model: Hybrid (2 WFH + 3 onsite days per week)
Role and responsibilities
Take technical ownership in developing advanced image processing and computer vision algorithms for industrial applications.
Drive algorithm development across the full lifecycle: prototyping, validation, optimization, deployment, and long-term maintenance.
Address complex imaging challenges in real‑world environments, ensuring robustness, accuracy, and performance.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (software, hardware, SEM, application, customer teams) to define requirements and translate them into clear algorithm specifications and architecture.
Produce high‑level design documents, decision records, and algorithm specifications.
Engage in technical discussions with customers and global stakeholders to understand use cases and propose algorithmic solutions.
Conduct code reviews, model reviews, and performance optimization in C++/Linux environments.
Troubleshoot algorithm behaviors, integration issues, or performance bottlenecks.
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree or above in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related fields.
PhD is considered equivalent to 5–6 years of industry experience.
8+ years of experience in image processing, computer vision, pattern recognition, or related algorithm development.
Demonstrated experience in complex industrial imaging, such as: Fingerprint recognition/Optical inspection (AOI) /PCB defect detection /Machine vision /Autonomous driving perception
Strong proficiency in C++ and solid development experience in Linux environments.
Proven ability to act as a senior individual contributor and drive technical direction without formal people management responsibilities.
Effective communication skills for working with cross-regional teams, including regular meetings with US stakeholders (mostly during daytime; occasional early 07:30 calls).
Preferred Qualifications
Deep learning experience applied to industrial imaging: Feature extraction, correlation, matching /Defect inspection /Image quality enhancement /Image alignment /CNN / GAN / Transformer‑based models
Familiarity with performance optimization: SIMD, CUDA, OpenCL, embedded acceleration, or system-level optimization.
Experience deploying algorithms to production environments and improving robustness, stability, and performance over product lifecycle.
Skills
Strong analytical and problem‑solving ability for tackling ambiguous and complex imaging scenarios.
Clear and structured communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration.
High level of self‑discipline, ownership, and ability to drive tasks independently.
Ability to influence technical decisions without direct people management responsibilities.
Work Environment
Department: HMI D&E / Software Engineering
Team size: 20+ and expanding
Work model: Hybrid (2 WFH + 3 onsite days per week)

What We Do
ASML is a high-tech company, headquartered in the Netherlands. We manufacture the complex lithography machines that chipmakers use to produce integrated circuits, or computer chips. Over 30 years, we have grown from a small startup into a multinational company with over 60 locations across Europe, Asia and the US.
Behind ASML’s innovations are engineers who think ahead. The people who work at our company include some of the most creative minds in physics, electrical engineering, mathematics, chemistry, mechatronics, optics, mechanical engineering, computer science and software engineering.
Because ASML spends more than €2 billion per year on R&D, our teams have the freedom, support and resources to experiment, test and push the boundaries of technology. They work in close-knit, multidisciplinary teams, listening to and learning from each other.
