From systems architecture development to system analysis and optimization, astrodynamics, orbital debris, navigation, failure analysis, mission assurance, cost and schedule assessment, and economic market analysis, SED exploits an incredibly broad array of engineering and business disciplines against a diverse and dynamic portfolio of programs and national challenges.
The Acquisition Risk and Reliability Engineering Department (ARRED) supports its customers through rigorous application of risk and reliability practices and principles to ensure mission success for spacecraft, launch systems, and their associated ground systems. The system safety/reliability senior engineer leads and contributes to system safety and reliability analysis of space and launch systems across national security space. The senior engineer will apply system safety discipline to traditional missions as well as develop techniques to address new mission types such as in-flight servicing and in-space assembly and manufacturing.
What You'll Be Doing

  • Provide system safety, risk, and reliability technical expertise and independent customer support in space, launch, and ground systems mission assurance (MA) for national security space and civil and commercial customers
  • Perform independent assessments of system safety and reliability analyses such as hazard analyses, failure modes effects and criticality analyses, and reliability predictions, as well as assessments of system safety and reliability processes.
  • Perform independent risk and hazard assessments as well as assessments of MA processes.

  • Present results of analyses and assessments to management, customers, and associate contractors
  • Participate on and sometimes lead small teams to accomplish technical tasks and assess and improve the effectiveness of mission assurance practices related to system safety, risk, or reliability
  • Help innovate by developing and applying new technologies (e.g., Model Based Engineering, software reliability) to system safety, risk, or reliability engineering in order to enhance existing capabilities and grow capabilities to new application areas
  • Assist programs in applying mission assurance principles to the design, development, manufacturing, integration, and testing of space and ground systems

What You Need To Be Successful

  • BS degree in engineering, mathematics, physical sciences, or related technical discipline or the experience equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience in developing methods for assessing system safety and reliability of space and launch systems
  • Familiarity with a wide range of space systems and launch vehicles
  • Demonstrated experience in team/leadership positions

  • Demonstrated experience leading high-profile, quick turn-around tasks as an individual contributor or as a team lead
  • Strong relationship building skills to enable frequent communication with a range of customers on defining new tasks, developing task descriptions, resolving issues, and reporting work progress and results
  • Demonstrated experience presenting and writing technical information
  • Ability to be flexible, adaptable, and able to manage multiple simultaneous tasks, including occasional business travel
  • This position requires a TS/SSBI/SCI security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
