Purpose of the Position / Responsibilities
The purpose of this position is to ensure the compliant, efficient, and timely execution of all customs-related processes within export operations. The role is responsible for preparing and verifying customs declarations, as well as ensuring compliance with all applicable customs and tax regulations.
In addition, the position involves communication and coordination with customers, authorities, and internal stakeholders to ensure smooth international goods movement and proper, transparent customs clearance procedures.
Areas of Responsibility
Customs Operations
Preparation of export declarations for exports from the EU (currently via ATLAS)
Preparation of all required customs declarations and documentation in compliance with customs and tax regulations
Execution of all formal customs procedures for exports in accordance with legal requirements
Port registrations for Hamburg ZAPP (HDS, GM01, ASUMA-WKS)
Port registrations for western ports (PORTBASE, BHT, WHT, APCS)
Preparation of preferential trade documents (T2L/F, ATR, EUR.1, and similar documents)
Customer Management
Responding to customer inquiries regarding customs-related matters
Ensuring a service-oriented and customer-focused approach when dealing with internal and external customers
Stakeholder Management
Cooperation with customs authorities, including the submission of customs-related documentation
Coordination with other operational departments regarding import and export processes
Independent collaboration with authorities and internal departments in the event of customs-related irregularities
Communication Responsibilities
Clear and accurate coordination with customs authorities and internal departments
Documentation of all relevant customs clearance activities and transactions
Communication in German and English within international supply chains
Competencies
Professional expertise to independently prepare and review customs declarations
Decision-making authority in handling and resolving irregularities in customs procedures
Responsibility for the accurate determination and documentation of customs duties and import levies
Application of in-depth knowledge of customs law and related procedures
Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and organize workload effectively
Confident interaction with customers, authorities, and internal stakeholders
Skills Required
- Preparation of export declarations (EU) via ATLAS
- In-depth knowledge of customs law and tax regulations
- Experience with Hamburg ZAPP systems (HDS, GM01, ASUMA-WKS)
- Experience with western port systems (PORTBASE, BHT, WHT, APCS)
- Preparation of preferential trade documents (T2L/F, ATR, EUR.1 and similar)
- Ability to liaise and coordinate with customs authorities and internal stakeholders
- Customer-facing communication regarding customs matters
- Fluent communication in German and English
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and resolve customs irregularities
- Accurate documentation of customs clearance activities and duties
