Job Summary:
The Customer Quality Engineer II is responsible for ensuring customer quality requirements are met throughout product development, qualification, and production processes. This role will primarily focus on the preparation, review, approval, and management of First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR) to support new product introductions, engineering changes, and customer qualification requirements. The position serves as the key interface between customers, manufacturing, engineering, and suppliers to ensure compliance with applicable quality standards and customer expectations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning, preparation, review, and submission of First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR) in accordance with customer and industry requirements.
- Coordinate cross-functional activities required to complete First Article inspections, including Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality teams.
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, BOMs, process flows, and customer requirements to ensure complete and accurate FAI documentation.
- Validate dimensional, material, performance, and process compliance against design requirements.
- Support customer audits, qualification activities, and quality documentation requests.
- Investigate and resolve quality issues related to First Article submissions and customer feedback.
- Ensure compliance with applicable quality management systems and industry standards.
- Drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) related to First Article discrepancies and customer quality concerns.
- Monitor quality metrics and provide regular reporting on customer quality performance and FAI completion status.
- Collaborate with suppliers and production team to address quality issues impacting customer requirements.
- Participate in new product introduction (NPI) projects and qualification programs to ensure customer quality requirements are achieved.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support business objectives.
- Willingness to work flexible shifts, including early morning and night schedules.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong experience preparing and reviewing First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR/FAR).
- Working knowledge of SAP, Agile, and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, specifications, and customer requirements.
- Proficiency in reviewing and understanding engineering drawings, BOMs, and production documentation.
- Experience with root cause analysis and problem-solving methodologies (8D, 5 Why, Fishbone, etc.).
- Knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001, or equivalent).
- Familiarity with measurement equipment, inspection methods, and statistical tools.
- Ability to support process improvements and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills when working with cross-functional teams and customers.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Educational/Certification Requirement:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering with a minimum of 3 years in Quality Engineering or Customer Quality
- Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or related technical certifications are an advantage.
Experience Requirement:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Quality Engineering, Customer Quality, Manufacturing Quality, or a related field.
- Experience preparing, reviewing, and coordinating First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR).
- Experience interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials (BOM), and production documentation.
- Experience using measurement and inspection equipment to verify product compliance.
- Experience with root cause analysis and corrective action processes.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams to resolve quality issues and support customer requirements.
- Experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy in engineering documentation and decision making.
