Mō te tūranga | About the Role
Great customer conversations start with great insight.
We’re looking for a Customer Insights Lead – Credit to join our Institutional & Business Banking team and help turn customer, financial and portfolio data into meaningful commercial insight.
Sitting at the intersection of customer insights, credit, commercial banking and strategy, you’ll bring a strong understanding of financial statements and business banking economics to uncover opportunities, identify emerging risks and help our bankers have more valuable conversations with customers.
You’ll develop bespoke insights that help customers better understand their business performance, identify opportunities for growth and improve business outcomes. Internally, you’ll work closely with Distribution, Product, Credit, Risk, Finance and other teams to translate complex information into practical recommendations, tools and frameworks.
Key responsibilities include:
- Use your credit and financial analysis capability to identify the themes, risks and opportunities sitting within customer and portfolio data.
- Analyse customer financial performance across the P&L, balance sheet and cash flow, connecting these insights to broader commercial outcomes.
- Develop insights across areas such as margin performance, cash conversion cycles, working capital optimisation, pricing and sector benchmarking.
- Build portfolio insights, opportunity heatmaps and risk signals that help Relationship Managers understand where to focus and why.
- Undertake portfolio, segment and customer analysis to understand growth opportunities, concentrations and the impact of economic cycles.
- Translate macroeconomic and sector developments across areas such as rates, FX, supply chains and labour into practical customer and banker insights.
- Turn complex analysis into compelling stories and clear recommendations for customers, bankers and senior leaders.
- Develop customer-ready dashboards, insight packs, sector perspectives and reusable tools that bring the analysis to life.
Nā tāu rourou | What will you bring?
This could be a great opportunity for someone with a strong credit, banking, analytics or commercial strategy background who wants to apply their expertise differently.
You’ll ideally bring:
- Strong credit and financial analysis capability, including the ability to confidently interpret P&L, balance sheet and cash flow information.
- A strong understanding of business banking economics and how financial performance connects to customer strategy, growth, profitability and risk.
- Knowledge of areas such as working capital, pricing, risk-adjusted returns and portfolio performance.
- Strong commercial judgement and the ability to turn financial and customer information into clear opportunities and recommendations.
- Experience translating complex analysis into simple, meaningful stories for both customers and senior stakeholders.
- The confidence to build relationships across Relationship Management, Distribution, Product, Credit, Risk, Finance and Data teams.
- Strong analytical capability, with experience using SQL and BI tools such as Power BI or Tableau, together with advanced Excel skills.
Most importantly, you’ll be curious. You’ll enjoy getting beneath the numbers, understanding what they mean for a customer or portfolio, and turning that understanding into practical action.
