The Custom Upfitter is a hands-on, production-based role within a warehouse environment, responsible for customizing and assembling specialty vehicles and products. This position involves working across multiple trades, including painting, carpentry, plumbing, metal fabrication, mechanical and electrical work. The Custom Upfitter collaborates closely with different departments to ensure high-quality, timely completion of customized projects that meet customer needs.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Perform custom vehicle and product upfitting in accordance with customer specifications and production schedules.
- Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to complete projects accurately.
- Operate a variety of tools, including saws (power and hand), drills, screw guns, hammers, welders, and measuring tools.
- Assist with or perform the following tasks as part of the production process:
- Painting: Surface preparation and application of paint finishes.
- Carpentry: Measuring, cutting and assembling wood components for vehicle or product builds.
- Plumbing: Installation and fitting of plumbing components in custom builds.
- Metal Fabrication: Cutting, welding and joining metal components with structural integrity.
- Auto-Mechanical Work: Basic installations, modifications and mechanical troubleshooting.
- Auto-Electrical Work: Basic electrical installations, wiring, and system setups.
- Forklift Operation: Moving materials and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Problem-solve and engineer solutions during the build process to address unexpected physical challenges.
- Differentiate between rough work and high-quality finished products, ensuring top-notch craftsmanship.
- Communicate effectively and collaborate respectfully with coworkers from various departments to achieve production goals.
- Maintain adherence to safety standards and contribute to workplace organization and cleanliness.
- Remain flexible and adaptable, willing to contribute to all areas of the operation as needed.
- Perform other tasks as assigned to support production and business needs.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Prior experience in any of the following areas is preferred: painting, carpentry, plumbing, metal fabrication, auto-mechanical, or auto-electrical work.

- Regular activities include climbing stairs/steps, stretching, lifting up to 40 lbs., bending at the waist, pushing and moving materials and/or equipment, walking and standing.
- Intermittent activities include lifting overhead, climbing ladders, lifting 40 lbs. or more, squatting and kneeling for tasks in tight spaces.
- Active warehouse and manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, machinery, and varying temperatures.
- Requires use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toed boots.
- Flexibility in tasks and assignments based on production schedules and business needs.
