General purpose: To design and launch the Business Communication and Writing course within the new Business for Creatives program, launching in Fall 2025.

The Master of Professional Studies (MPS) Business for Creatives program provides foundational business skills with a creative approach, targeting artists, entrepreneurs, social media influencers, and other creative professionals. The program emphasizes practical application, preparing students to develop, launch, sustain, or comprehend the operations of small to midsize creative enterprises.

The MPS Business for Creatives is a 9-course, 30-credit-hour graduate program designed to target a broad audience of “creatives,” which can apply to professionals looking for an alternative to an MBA, entrepreneurs, artists, designers, performing artists, singers/songwriters, social media influencers, fashion professionals, gamers, educators, etc. The program will cater to professionals and those aspiring to pivot their careers from multiple disciplines seeking foundational business exposure to allow them to develop, launch, sustain, and comprehend the operations of small to midsize creative enterprises as they continue down their desired professional path.

Summary of Essential Functions:

  • Work with the Open Studies curriculum development team to create original course content for the Business Communication and Writing course.

  • Create all aspects of course curriculum, including writing the syllabus, selecting course materials, creating student deliverables, and how work will be assessed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of business writing and communication theory and practice.

  • Applicants for this position should have extensive knowledge of business communication.

  • Experience in creative industries is a strong advantage.

  • Applicants should be comfortable with using technology in an online learning environment, including Canvas and video conferencing platforms.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in communication, writing, or a related field plus proven/relevant professional experience.

  • Proven experience creating curriculum for an online learning environment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a related field plus proven/relevant professional experience.

  • Proven experience creating curriculum specifically for an online asynchronous format.

  • Required training: Handbook orientation, Anti-Harassment, Hazard Communication, Emergency Plans & Fire Prevention, Personal Protection Equipment.
