The Staff Development Specialist I position serves as a Curriculum Designer assigned to the Basic Training School Program and In-Service Training Programs. The position is primarily focused on the refinement of instructional course objectives and content for existing Juvenile Justice Officer and Juvenile Court Counselor curricula, in addition to new Division training initiatives. The position serves as a member of the Juvenile Justice Training Committee/Annual Training Review Committee advising Staff Development Coordinators on innovative instructional strategies to enhance learning outcomes. The position provides course delivery and instruction to the Basic School Training and In-Service Training Programs. In addition, the position conducts research, creates new educational content, and utilizes e-learning software to support the successful integration of adult learning practices.
The Division's Staff Development and Training Section aims to provide effective training programs and services for juvenile justice professionals, local, and state community partners. Training programs and services are designed to aid in employee job performance and productivity that further support juvenile justice philosophies and policies contributing to overall mission success.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Range: $43,703-$83,479

DPS uses the Merit-Based Recruitment and Selection Plan to fill positions subject to the State Human Resources Act with the most qualified individuals.

  • Demonstrated experience of theory, practices, principles of adult learning and/or human behavior.

  • Demonstrated experience with Articulate Storyline and Rise, and/or other e-learning software tools to create engaging and interactive content for adult learners.

  • Demonstrated experience researching, writing, editing, and/or proofreading large volumes of training materials with attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated experience in project and time management to include assessing, planning, executing, and/or evaluating various work assignments to meet deadlines and/or organizational goals.

  • Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting, problem-solving, and/or developing evidence-based strategies to achieve desired training outcomes.

Work Schedule: 

Work hours for this position are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.
