Role Objective: To provide coordinated communications and operational support to the Student Development and Wellbeing Department team, ensuring that students and staff are effectively informed about, engaged with and supported through the Department’s programmes, services and activities.  The Communications Coordinator is a central point of contact for departmental communications and promotion of Department events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and implement timely communications and promotional activities for the Department’s programmes, services, resources, events and initiatives, aligned with the University's academic calendar and departmental schedules.
  • Develop and maintain an annual departmental communications and events calendar, ensuring that key activities, campaigns, deadlines and promotional requirements are planned and communicated in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with relevant University departments and stakeholders to obtain required approvals, resources and support for departmental communications, events and promotional activities.
  • Manage and maintain the Department's presence and information across the University's Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), website, media boards, ConnectEd and other approved communication channels including digital channels and social media.
  • Regularly review and update departmental webpages, VLE content, student guidance, announcements and other digital resources to ensure information is accurate, current, accessible and engaging.
  • Prepare, write and distribute communications, press releases, announcements, promotional materials and digital content for students, faculty and relevant stakeholders.
  • Maintain departmental communications resources, including press releases, departmental information, publications, photographic database images, and promotional materials.

  • Information booklets and other printed and digital resources, working with suppliers and the University's Marketing and Communications (MarComs) team as appropriate.
  • Ensure that communications are appropriate to the intended audience and reflect the University's professional standards and brand guidelines.
  • Assist other department coordinators with the planning, scheduling and coordination of practical arrangements for events, including room bookings, facilities, equipment, materials, media and photographic coverage etc. where required. Organise media plans for post-event promotion and dissemination of information.
  • Represent the department as a welcoming and professional first point of contact for students, staff, visitors and external stakeholders engaging with the Department.
  • Welcome visitors and provide accurate information about departmental services, programmes and activities.

Requirements
Key Requirements/Competencies:

  • Degree in marketing/communications/media or similar subject
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt communication style and content to different audiences.
  • Strong digital and IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc as well as other software applications for design and content creation; experience using Virtual Learning Environments, CRM/database systems and digital communication platforms.
  • Prior experience with graphic design, poster production / digital content creation
  • Understanding of social media platforms and their appropriate use for promoting programmes, services, events and organisational achievements.
  • Strong visual communication and creative skills, with an ability to produce engaging and professional promotional materials.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple activities, priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy and presentation.
  • Friendly and welcoming personality
  • Effective contributor as a team member; ability to work under pressure and multi-task in a busy student-centred environment.
  • A flexible working approach; some out of hours attendance may be required to cover student events organized by the Department.

Skills Required
