This position will support Air Force cryptographic modernization efforts by helping identify capability gaps, assess vulnerabilities in COMSEC and cryptographic systems, and develop recommendations, requirements, and strategic plans for modernized solutions across air, ground, space, cyber, and weapons platforms. The position also supports roadmap development, architecture and requirements documentation, compliance tracking, fielding strategies, and leadership briefings related to enterprise cryptographic modernization
Responsibilities include but are not limited to
- Participate in meetings, progress reviews, integrated teams, working groups, etc.
- Draft, edit, and review a variety of correspondence and documentation, primarily using Microsoft Office applications.
- Provide information management, records management, scheduling functions, and meeting/conference support.
- Prepare briefing/training materials and present briefings/trainings.
- Liaise and coordinate with personnel at all levels inside and outside the organization.
- Provide awareness of new/evolving requirements and recommendations for integration.
- Provide support for planning, programming, tracking, and financial execution.
- Prepare information papers, point papers, background papers, and staff studies.
Task-Specific Responsibilities
- Perform capability gap identification and analysis based on NSA-published guidance memos detailing cryptographic algorithms reaching end-of-life and potentially weakening DoW’s ability to secure classified C4 links (“Decertification”).
- Provide Key Extension Request (KER) support and advice to HQ CCC, SAF/CN, HAF A6, and SF S6 by collecting and reviewing packages, coordinating briefers and associated documentation, making recommendations, and assisting SAF/CN with scheduling associated briefs.
- Contact DAF and DAF-assigned COMSEC material Controlling Authorities (CONAUTH), PMOs, and individual users, with Government oversight/approval, to determine whether identified keying material short titles will be cancelled, transitioned, or will not transition on time and require a key extension request.
Requirements
- Active TS clearance with SCI/SAP eligibility.
- Demonstrated proficiency in COMSEC principles, encompassing the full lifecycle management of cryptographic equipment from development and fielding through sustainment. Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in cryptographic key management, including ordering, generation, distribution, and destruction, using systems such as KMI; comprehensive understanding of Controlling Authority roles and COMSEC account management.
- In-depth knowledge of and experience with strategic-level NSA, DoD, and DAF security policies and procedures related to cryptographic and keying material, including classification guides for cryptographic algorithms, equipment, and COMSEC keying material.
- Minimum of 2 years of advanced staff experience planning, organizing, and negotiating effectively with cross-functional teams using TMT or other staff coordination standards, document reviews, program updates, and background papers to drive adoption of critical recommendations.
