MidFirst Bank, the nation's largest privately owned bank, is seeking an experienced Credit Officer to join its Western Region Commercial Underwriting Department.
This position supports commercial banking teams throughout Arizona, Nevada, and Utah and is responsible for independently underwriting commercial credit requests, identifying transaction risks, and recommending appropriate credit structures. The successful candidate will work closely with Relationship Managers, Credit Administration, and Senior Management while gaining exposure to a diverse mix of industries, borrowers, and transaction types.
The Western Region Commercial Underwriting Department is a collaborative team of experienced credit professionals committed to sound underwriting, thoughtful risk assessment, and exceptional client service.
Primary Responsibilities- Independently underwrite commercial and industrial (C&I) loan requests from initial analysis through final recommendation.
- Partner with Relationship Managers to structure transactions consistent with MidFirst Bank policy and risk appetite.
- Analyze corporate financial statements, tax returns, audited and reviewed financials, and other borrower information to assess repayment capacity and overall creditworthiness.
- Analyze collateral support, appraisals, and related credit documentation.
- Evaluate personal financial information, guarantor strength, and tertiary sources of repayment.
- Prepare concise, well-supported loan approval memorandums for management and approval authorities.
- Identify transaction risks and recommend practical risk mitigation strategies.
- Develop subject matter expertise within specific industries, credit disciplines, or loan products as needed.
- Complete covenant compliance monitoring, and other periodic portfolio management responsibilities, as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
- Five or more years of commercial and industrial (C&I) underwriting experience.
- Strong financial analysis and credit underwriting skills.
- Experience analyzing commercial financial statements, business tax returns, and cash flow.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Experience underwriting a variety of commercial credit facilities, including working capital lines, equipment financing, acquisition financing, and owner-occupied real estate transactions.
- Knowledge of commercial loan structures, collateral analysis, and lien perfection.
- Experience with Moody's CreditLens, Moody's Risk Analyst, IBS Insight, FIS, OnBase, BankerInsight, or similar systems.
