Position Summary

The Creative Services Manager leads the creative vision and day-to-day operations of the company’s in-house Creative Services team. The team is responsible for delivering compelling, multi-platform content for creative initiatives and projects of varying scale, complexity and visibility. As the team leader, the Creative Services Manager will guide the team in managing projects from concept through execution, ensuring timely delivery, brand consistency, and high-quality output rooted in creative strategies that engage our audiences and contribute to business results. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, skilled project manager, and passionate about storytelling through creative excellence.

The Creative Services team is part of Marathon’s Communications & Community Relations organization. The Creative Services Manager will report to the Vice President, Communications & Community Relations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, develop and mentor a multidisciplinary team of creative professionals, including designers, photographers, videographers and multimedia experts.

  • Manage the intake, scheduling and execution of creative projects, including establishing and managing creative timelines to ensure projects are delivered on time.

  • Guide the team in gathering requirements and developing compelling creative briefs that align with business objectives and tell engaging stories.

  • Lead the development and execution of major creative projects and campaigns across multiple channels and platforms.

  • Manage and refine brand/logo guidelines for the Marathon and MPLX corporate brands and strengthen brand governance to ensure a consistent identity across applicable creative initiatives and company platforms. Ensure materials reflect the company’s values and visual identity.

  • Prioritize and allocate team resources and workloads effectively.

  • Identify opportunities to increase operational efficiency and scalability within the creative workflow and production processes, by using tools, metrics and best practices to streamline and better structure how creative work is produced, while maintaining brand consistency, quality, timeliness, capacity and compliance.

  • Establish and manage relationships with creative, production and technology vendors.

  • Track and report on key performance metrics related to creative operations.

  • Drive innovation and elevate creative standards, challenging accepted norms to deliver exceptional, fit-for-purpose work; stay ahead of creative trends, integrating fresh ideas, tools and techniques into the daily operations and work of the Creative Services team; champion a culture of continuous improvement.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communications, commercial art, communications, marketing or related field required. Associate degree with 15 years of direct experience will meet requirement in lieu of Bachelor’s degree

  • 10+ years of creative services experience within a large corporate or medium- to large-sized agency setting required; experience with industrial, manufacturing or other safety-sensitive companies preferred

  • 3+ years of supervisory experience highly preferred

  • Strong portfolio showcasing a range of creative work across digital and traditional media required

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Strong storytelling and brand development skills

  • Proven ability to create and direct high-quality content and demonstrate a strong understanding of how creative design can influence business results

  • Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, creative project management tools, digital asset management systems, and Microsoft PowerPoint

  • Familiarity with photography, video production and motion graphics strategies and tools

  • Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to details; proven ability to manage and execute a high volume of creative and content development priorities concurrently

  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and understand complex business lines and stakeholder groups, and a passion for continuously improving business acumen

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and propose creative solutions

  • Excellent collaboration skills; ability to build strong relationships, including with senior leaders, influence creative decisions, and work effectively in a matrixed organization

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, continuously changing environment with a high degree of autonomy, accountability and accuracy
