Description

Position Overview:

The Creative Communications Manager leads the strategy, creative development, coordination, and execution of communications and marketing initiatives for Change Church. This role serves as a key steward of the Change Church brand, ensuring that the church communicates with clarity, creativity, consistency, relevance, and excellence across digital, social, print, promotional, ministry, and church-wide platforms.

This is both a creative and execution-focused role. The Creative Communications Manager must be an exceptional communicator and creative thinker who can develop concepts, shape messaging, write and edit compelling content, recognize a strong creative idea, and translate vision into communication that connects with the intended audience.

At the same time, this person must be highly organized and able to turn ideas into executable plans. When a new sermon series, event, ministry initiative, organizational priority, or special project is introduced, the Manager determines what needs to be communicated, who needs to hear it, how and where it should be communicated, when communication should begin, what assets are required, who owns each deliverable, and how the pieces work together to create an effective campaign.

The Creative Communications Manager serves as the central point of coordination for creative communications ensuring that ideas do not simply become individual assets, but are developed into thoughtful, integrated communication strategies.

Core Competencies

  • Creative Thinking & Concept Development: Demonstrates strong creative instincts and the ability to develop fresh concepts, messaging, campaigns, stories, and approaches rather than simply executing what has already been prescribed.
  • Strategic Communications & Marketing: Understands audience, message, channel, timing, frequency, and call to action and can build integrated communication strategies that move people from awareness to engagement.
  • Writing & Editorial Excellence: Exceptional writer and editor who can adapt voice and tone across platforms, simplify complex information, develop compelling messaging, and recognize when communication is unclear or ineffective.
  • Project & Workflow Management: Able to manage multiple simultaneous campaigns and creative projects with strong organization, prioritization, timelines, follow-through, stakeholder management, and attention to detail.
  • Creative Leadership & Collaboration: Able to lead creative people, provide useful feedback, draw great ideas from others, make decisions, manage competing perspectives, and collaborate effectively across departments and leadership levels.

Character Traits

  • Creative: Naturally curious, imaginative, observant, and continually looking for fresh ways to communicate and connect.
  • Proactive: Thinks ahead, anticipates needs, and does not wait until something becomes urgent before taking action.
  • Collaborative: Works well with different personalities, disciplines, ministries, and leadership levels while maintaining healthy creative relationships.
  • Discerning: Knows the difference between something that is merely attractive and something that effectively communicates the intended message.
  • Accountable: Owns outcomes, follows through on commitments, communicates when something is at risk, and holds both themselves and their team to a high standard.

Spiritual Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate an uncompromised commitment to Change Church's vision, values, core beliefs, and statement of faith.
  • Be an active participant in the ministry of Change Church.
  • Be a born-again Christian who conducts personal and professional affairs in accordance with the Bible and maintains a lifestyle consistent with Scripture.
  • Understand that every Change Church employee contributes to the mission of helping people change their lives through the Gospel so they can change the world and is considered a spiritual leader within the church.
  • Commit to pray for the First Family, leadership, and membership of Change Church.
  • Lead in generosity to the church through consistent giving of tithes and offerings.
  • Champion, support, and advocate for the vision of the church.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

General Expectations

  • Serve in excellence by being early and prepared for all scheduled meetings.
  • Establish and foster exemplary relationships with staff, non-staff workers, church members, vendors, and the community, representing Change Church with integrity, professionalism, and warmth.
  • Demonstrate a servant’s heart and a willingness to support organizational needs beyond assigned workflows when appropriate.
  • Contribute to cultivating a healthy, honor-driven, growth-oriented, and spiritually strong organizational culture.

Creative Communications Strategy

  • Translate organizational priorities, ministry initiatives, sermon series, events, launches, and special projects into clear creative communication strategies.
  • Determine the primary audience, communication objective, key message, call to action, communication channels, promotional cadence, creative needs, and timing for major initiatives.
  • Develop integrated communication plans that connect social media, email, announcements, digital platforms, promotional assets, video, print, environmental communication, and other appropriate channels.
  • Anticipate communication needs before they become urgent requests and help leaders think strategically about how and when information should be communicated.

Creative Direction & Ideation

  • Bring strong personal creativity to the role by generating concepts, campaign ideas, messaging approaches, storytelling opportunities, promotional strategies, and fresh ways to communicate the vision and activity of Change Church.
  • Partner with the Creative Producer on the development of creative concepts for sermon series, events, special productions, ministry moments, campaigns, and other experiences.
  • Provide creative direction and feedback throughout development, ensuring concepts are compelling, executable, appropriate for the audience, and aligned with the Change Church brand.
  • Be willing and able to personally contribute creatively when needed—not simply assign work to others.

Writing, Messaging & Editorial Leadership

  • Write, edit, and shape compelling communication for church-wide initiatives, campaigns, promotional materials, announcements, digital platforms, leadership communication, ministry messaging, and special projects.
  • Establish messaging frameworks that help ensure the most important information is clear, concise, engaging, and actionable.
  • Provide editorial oversight for content produced by the Marketing Content Specialist and other contributors, ensuring consistency in voice, tone, grammar, clarity, and brand language.
  • Take complex ideas or large amounts of information and identify the message that actually needs to be communicated.

Marketing & Campaign Management

  • Develop marketing and promotional strategies for events, ministry initiatives, registrations, launches, sermon series, and other organizational priorities.
  • For each major initiative, establish the audience, message, campaign timeline, promotional channels, content cadence, asset requirements, launch dates, and calls to action.
  • Make thoughtful decisions about when, where, how often, and through which channels content should be distributed.
  • Monitor campaign execution and make adjustments when communication is not achieving the intended reach, engagement, registration, or response.

Creative & Marketing Project Management

  • Serve as the project management lead for Creative Communications and marketing initiatives.
  • Translate ideas and requests into organized project plans with clearly defined scope, deliverables, owners, timelines, dependencies, milestones, review points, approvals, and deadlines.
  • Lead project kickoffs and ensure the Marketing Content Specialist, Creative Producer, designers, contractors, and other contributors understand the objective, audience, deliverables, and timeline.
  • Maintain visibility across active projects and proactively identify bottlenecks, missed dependencies, competing priorities, and risks.
  • Manage feedback and approval cycles and follow through with stakeholders to keep projects moving from concept through final delivery.

Communications & Marketing Calendar

  • Own and maintain the master Creative Communications calendar, providing visibility into upcoming sermon series, events, ministry initiatives, campaigns, registrations, organizational moments, content pushes, and major communication deadlines.
  • Work proactively with ministry, campus, events, programming, production, and executive leaders to understand what is coming and ensure Creative Communications is engaged early enough to plan effectively.
  • Coordinate communication timing to prevent competing messages, oversaturation, missed promotional windows, and last-minute creative requests.

Brand Stewardship

  • Maintain and reinforce Change Church brand standards across communications, campaigns, ministries, campuses, events, and digital platforms.
  • Ensure appropriate use of logos, typography, visual identity, imagery, templates, voice, tone, and other brand elements.
  • Review high-visibility creative and communication assets for alignment and quality.
  • Develop templates, guidelines, resources, and systems that empower teams to execute routine communication without requiring Creative Communications to personally produce every asset.

Social & Digital Communications

  • Provide strategic and creative direction for social media and digital communication, while the Marketing Content Specialist manages day-to-day content development, publishing, and platform execution.
  • Establish content priorities, campaign direction, recurring content opportunities, storytelling themes, and promotional approaches.
  • Use audience behavior, engagement information, platform insights, and campaign performance to inform future content and communication decisions.
  • Ensure digital content reflects the voice, personality, culture, excellence, and ministry priorities of Change Church.

Storytelling

  • Identify stories that demonstrate the ministry, people, impact, transformation, culture, and mission of Change Church.
  • Build relationships and systems that surface stories from campuses, ministries, Outreach, Next Gen, Formation, Change Global, and other areas of the church.
  • Determine the most effective format and platform for telling those stories, including written content, social media, video, photography, testimonials, campaigns, and other creative formats.

Team Leadership & Creative Operations

  • Provide direct leadership, coaching, prioritization, and accountability for assigned team members.
  • Create clarity around assignments, deadlines, creative expectations, priorities, and ownership.
  • Protect the creative team from fragmented requests by establishing and managing appropriate intake, prioritization, planning, and approval processes.
  • Coordinate external designers, writers, photographers, videographers, contractors, agencies, or other creative resources when necessary.
  • Build a creative environment that values excellence, collaboration, experimentation, feedback, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Partner closely with Programming, Production, Events, Campuses, Ministries, Next Gen, Outreach, and executive leadership to understand upcoming priorities and determine appropriate communication and creative support.
  • Participate early in the planning process so Creative Communications can contribute strategy and ideas rather than functioning solely as a downstream production resource.
  • Ask the questions necessary to turn vision into execution

Weekend Worship Experience & Special Event Support

  • Support weekend worship experiences, church-wide conferences, special events, and other organizational initiatives as assigned based on operational needs.
  • Provide functional, logistical, technical, guest experience, or event support consistent with the responsibilities of the role.
