Crozier Fine Arts is seeking a Crating Supervisor to join our Crate Shop in Lanham, MD. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of all crate shop employees, maintaining the flow of all crating jobs (estimating, scheduling, and supervising production), and providing expertise and leadership during projects while acting as a liaison between clients and the business.

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

In this role, you will:

  • Production & Operations Management: Oversee the full lifecycle of all crate request jobs—including estimating, booking, scheduling, and supervising production—while continuously refining systems to improve output, manage costs, and adhere to assigned budgets.

  • Team Leadership & Compliance: Prioritize and plan work activities, determine additional resource needs, and ensure the cratemaking staff remains fully compliant with all required training and timekeeping protocols.

  • Cross-Functional & Client Collaboration: Partner closely with Account Managers and other internal departments to communicate project changes, while providing friendly, high-quality, and professional service to develop strong relationships with customers.

  • Administrative & Financial Accountability: Maintain meticulous paperwork, including timesheets, purchase orders, waybills, maintenance records, and database billing, while managing expense reports for company-issued Purchase Cards.

  • Facilities & Materials Oversight: Manage and control all crate shop materials and supplies, ensuring crating tools and equipment are in safe, working order by facilitating regular maintenance with vendors.

What You’ll Bring (Skills & Qualifications)

The ideal candidate will have: 

  • 5+ years of related experience and/or training in cratemaking and fine art packing (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).

  • Strong knowledge of industry-specific packing and crating techniques, including museum travel exhibitions, two-way/economical crating methods, three-dimensional packing, archival materials, and museum specifications.

  • Proven ability in technical and mathematical applications, including calculating dimensions, volume, area, and percentages, alongside the ability to apply basic algebra and geometry concepts to crate design.

  • Excellent communication and administrative skills, with a working knowledge of Moveware, Google Workspace, and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Strong problem-solving capabilities, a meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to effectively present information to clients, stakeholders, and internal teams.

Reasonably expected salary range: $88,400.00 - $117,800.00

Please note that an employee's starting salary may vary based on a variety of factors. Where State, Municipal, Provincial, Territorial or other legal minimum wages exceed the federal minimum wage, employees are entitled to the higher rate.
