The Role

Applications are invited for the position of CPE Specialist position to be based in Plattekloof or National (other areas will be considered).
Purpose of the Role:

The CPE Specialist needs to develop, support and maintain relevant standards for operational teams to implement and will clarify the best practices that need to be used and instill the thinking processes behinds these into operational staff. Standard and best practice implementations need to be supported by our IT systems as required, and the correct data and information should be available to teams to improve.

Key Responsibility Areas would include, but are not limited to:

Subject Matter:

The CPE Specialist needs to own everything related to:

  • Customer premises equipment used and developed by R&D
  • Customer premises installations
  • Customer premises network metrics
  • In house / office network distributions (LAN & Wi-Fi)

      Standards:

      • Investigate relevant products or technology used in the marketplace and follow all the new developments from suppliers and operators.
      • Develop implementation standards based on the above and relevant strategic and tactical plans, and test these in our environment to ensure alignment with all parties.
      • Standard documentation must be concise and simple. Well-structured and verbalised.
      • Ensure all standards are well trained and implemented.
      • Support standards by addressing any queries or problems raised from its implementation.
      • Ensure that standards are continuously reviewed and improved by knowing what occurs in the market as well as getting feedback from operational teams implementing and using the standards. .

      Best Practices:

      • Investigate the best practice used by other operators nationally and internationally as well as those defined by suppliers.
      • Ensure that the thinking processes behind best practices are clarified, taught and used by the business.
      • Clarify the best practice to be used in Herotel and field test these.
      • Roll out best practice by ensuring that they are trained and that the skills to implement them are developed.

      IT Systems:

      • Own the development, testing and implementation of all IT systems needed to support standards and best practices in RF Infrastructure.
      • Ensure we achieve continuous improvement in the use of systems by driving innovation from users.

      Operational data:

      • Ensure that the IT systems provide the relevant data to managers and users.

      Leadership 

      • Lead and coach all relevant teams to implement standards and best practices and assist them to continuously think how we can innovate and improve.

      Key Outputs:

      • Develop standards and ensure they are relevant and implemented. 
      • Develop best practices and ensure they are relevant and implemented. Clarify the thinking processes needed to implement and innovate.
      • Ensure that we continuously improve in standards and execution.
      • Ensure teams have the IT systems and related data and information they need to be successful.
      • In partnership with Learning & Development (L&D) and the Tactical Managers ensure that everyone applicable in Herotel is trained on the standards and best practices developed.

      The successful candidate must have the following experience/skills:

      Work Experience:

      • Minimum of 5 years’ work experience in a telecom’s technical environment and at least 3 years in Herotel.

      Skills and Competencies:

      • Must be well versed and fully understand the functioning of Herotel’s infrastructure.
      • Able to lead people, solve conflict and motivate people to change.
      • Able to process stress and pressure well, and help others do the same.
      • Be skilled in implementing projects.
      • Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) and implement change.
      • Knowledge and experience in applying standards and functional best practice.
      • Results orientation and drive.
      • Analytical thinking and problem solving.
      • Decision making and sound judgment.
      • Resilient, adaptable, and self-aware.
      • Able to transfer knowledge and skills to others.
      • Exceptional document writing skills.
      • Valid driver’s license and travel required.

      Educational Requirements:

      • Grade 12
      • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in the applicable field will be beneficial.
