The Finance Analyst plays a key role in evaluating and supporting affordable housing development projects from initial underwriting through project closing. This position spends much of the day building and maintaining financial models, analyzing project feasibility, reviewing development costs, and ensuring transactions meet financing and regulatory requirements.

A typical day includes working with developers, lenders, state housing agencies, attorneys, accountants, and internal teams to gather information, prepare financing applications, review transaction documents, and update financial models as projects evolve. The Finance Analyst also tracks project timelines, prepares reports, researches underwriting guidelines, and helps identify financial risks and opportunities that support sound investment decisions.

Success in this role requires strong analytical and Excel skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. The ideal candidate enjoys solving complex financial problems, working with large amounts of data, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and communicating technical financial information to a variety of stakeholders.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Education
Bachelor’s degree in planning, math, finance, business, accounting, or economics or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and comparable work experience.

Minimum Work Experience
Minimum two (2) year progressively responsible work experience in finance, data analysis, or investment modeling; or relevant education and training.

Significant Physical Position Requirements
Physical effort is that which is normally associated with work in an office environment. This position requires the ability to travel to occasional meetings, seminars, and other work-related functions within both local and long distances from CPC’s office in Columbia, SC.

Work Environment
This position performs work out of CPC’s corporate office in Columbia, SC. Travel, typically by automobile, is required for at least 5% of this position. Certain objectives require working on-site at various locations, and some professional training opportunities may also require travel. The candidate would need access to a regular means of transportation.

Telecommunications, Information Technology, and Office Equipment Used
Typical office equipment includes, but not limited to, desktop workstations and laptops utilizing a Windows-based environment. Software consists of a variety offered in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point as well as a customized database and a variety of web-based applications. Other equipment may include a variety of electronic devices such as tablets, printers, copiers, scanners, cellular phones, and digital cameras.


 

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in planning, math, finance, business, accounting, economics or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum two years of progressively responsible work experience in finance, data analysis, or investment/investment modeling
  • Strong Excel skills and experience building and maintaining financial models
  • Experience analyzing project feasibility, reviewing development costs, and underwriting affordable housing or similar projects
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, strong attention to detail, and strong analytical and communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Windows environment, customized databases and web-based applications
  • Ability to travel occasionally (approximately 5%), access to regular means of transportation, and work onsite in Columbia, SC
