Summary of Position:
The courier is responsible for transporting supplies, laundry, pharmacy supplies, mail, cash payments, and small equipment between the main hospital campus and the clinics. Additionally, the courier will transport laboratory specimens from the clinics to the main hospital laboratory.
Functions of Position:
•Will perform off-site assignments as assigned by the Materials Management Director.
•Follows established route for best accommodating the supply and specimen pick-up needs of each clinic.
•Responsible for delivery of supplies, laundry, equipment, medications and vaccines, and mail to off-site clinics as necessary.
•Responsible for scanning par levels and restocking locations with supplies.
•Responsible for the transport of soiled laundry, equipment for sterile processing, mail, and cash payments from the clinics to the main campus and delivering each to the appropriate area of the hospital.
•Maintains proper logs, packing slips, or other documentation for delivery of supplies.
•Compares log of specimens collected in each clinic to specimens ready for transport and follows established protocols for transporting specimens to the main hospital laboratory.
•Provides logs of specimens received from each clinic to the laboratory.
•Responsible for maintaining infection control and hazardous materials according to hospital and departmental policy.
•Returns to the hospital promptly upon completion of duties outside the hospital.
•Follows all applicable traffic and safety laws when operating the MDMC courier vehicle.
•Communicates any concerns about the courier vehicle to the department director or facilities management.
•Returns receipt for fuel purchased to department director.
•Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
•High school graduate or equivalent.
•Have a valid Class E driver license or able to acquire within one month of hire.
•Previous office training or experience, including clerical skills and basic computer skills, preferred.
•The courier will be in contact with patient specimens and soiled laundry which should be handled using universal precautions.
•Able to operate courier vehicle centrifuge and basic office equipment.
