JOB DESCRIPTION 

JOB TITLE:              Courier 

DEPARTMENT:          Caldwell Medical Associates  

REPORTS TO:              Clinic Operations Director 

POSITION SUMMARY: 

Provides timely courier service by responding to department requests to meet hospital and affiliate needs. Courier will be responsible for the pickup, transport, and delivery of medical specimens, lab supplies, and reports, while providing excellent service to our clients. Operating hours for this position will be 9:30-6 with a 30-minute lunch.  

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

Make prompt delivery and pick-up of confidential hospital documents and legal records for hospital documents by adhering to an established schedule in a timely and efficient manner in order to assist the hospital and its affiliates in expediting hospital business. 

Load all necessary suppliers needed for the daily pickups 

Complete daily pick-up schedule in a timely manner 

Deliver all daily picks to clinics at the end of your shift 

Handle all specimens and lab samples in a safe and efficient manner 

Safely operate a company vehicle and obey all traffic laws 

Utilize electronic devices to manage daily picks up 

Work directly with manager for additional pick-ups as needed 

Evaluate traffic patterns, alternative routes, and weather conditions as needed 

Performs other duties as assigned.   

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS 

Temperature changes: variations in temperature from hot to cold.    May be exposed to adverse road conditions from extremes of heat and cold in all weather conditions. 

WORKING CONDITIONS 

Standing or sitting for long periods  

Ability to lift 50 pounds 

Walking for extended periods of time 

Vision and hearing must be sufficient to handle duties as required. 

Activities prolonged, extensive standing, walking and/or sitting 

Lifts supplies and equipment with weight requirements of approximately 50lbs* 

Manual dexterity and mobility, reach with hands and arms, stooping, bending, kneeling and crouching, push/pull, use hands and fingers to touch & feel. 

No hearing loss greater than 40 decibels. 

*Seek assistance if the weight requirement for the performance of a job or task requires greater than 50lbs of effort/force

Must be skillful in written and oral communication.   

Demonstrates basic problem solving and time management skills.   

Must demonstrate the ability to interact with other personnel in a positive fashion.   

Must demonstrate the ability to work independently and to accept delegation of appropriate tasks.  

Must be able to respond to voice paging equipment, etc. 

Ability to direct staff to follow oral and written instructions and established procedures.  

Answers and converses on the telephone.

VISION REQUIREMENT 

Far acuity:  ability to see clearly at 20 feet or more 

Near acuity:  ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less 

Depth perception:  ability to accurately judge distance 

Field of Vision: ability to see peripherally 

Accommodation:  ability to adjust vision to bring objects into focus 

Color Vision:  ability to distinguish and identify different colors
