The Difference You Will Make:
Airbnb is seeking a collaborative and pragmatic attorney with substantial experience specializing in trademark and copyright legal practice. This role will report to the Lead Counsel for trademark, brand protection, copyright, and domain names, and will work on the full spectrum of issues managed by this team.
A Typical Day:
- Handle escalated notice & takedown cases related to user-generated content on the Airbnb platform; proactively manage risk, identify patterns and opportunities to improve workflows, and support the team through quality control, training, and process development
- Manage ongoing prosecution and maintenance of global trademark, domain name, and copyright portfolios for Airbnb, HotelTonight, and other acquired brands
- Manage a docket of trademark enforcement and IP dispute matters, including corresponding directly with third parties using our marks improperly and negotiating resolutions of trademark disputes
- Advise internal partners on the legal risks and viability of proposed trademarks and domain names, including conducting trademark searches and providing guidance on use and registration issues
- Collaborate with a fast-paced and high-performing team on IP strategy and program management
- Proactively manage and audit trademark and domain name portfolios, collaborating with internal stakeholders to align portfolios with business objectives
- Consult and partner with marketing, product, and commercial counsel on trademark, copyright, and right of publicity issues
Your Expertise:
- JD and a minimum of five (5) years of legal practice, including a substantial amount of experience with trademark/copyright/domain name and brand protection counseling (relevant in-house experience with leading global technology company/ies is a plus)
- A strong working knowledge of the Airbnb platform, evolving product lines, and competitive landscape
- Experience with intellectual property platform liability issues, the DMCA, and the DSA, either in the litigation or advisory context
- Demonstrated ability to execute on trademark/copyright/domain name and brand protection strategies and workflows, and to identify opportunities for improving processes
- Experience advising on trademark clearance, prosecution, and enforcement for a global company.
- Team player, highly collaborative, with excellent communication and listening skills
- Demonstrated ability to deliver timely, accurate, thorough, and concise legal analysis
- Able to develop a realistic assessment of legal risks and deliver clear, pragmatic, and business-oriented advice

How We'll Take Care of You:
