Interns will gain knowledge and experience through exciting and real-life learning opportunities. We are looking for high performing and motivated individuals in various areas within DTNA organizations. DTNA internships begin each summer in May or June.

Interns in this role may have the opportunity to transition into a full-time position subject to manager evaluations and business availability.
The Cost Engineering department is a global team responsible for calculating costs of purchased parts and tooling for series production and new projects. Through the use of standardized processes, IT-systems and our global Cost Engineering network within Daimler Trucks, we generate transparent bottom up cost calculations that can be utilized a multitude of ways.
In this role, you will calculate bottom-up costs of future and series parts based on technical specifications, engineering design proposal, NX 3D modeling, or part teardowns. Considers materials, manufacturing process, labor, variable and fixed costs according to both global and regional inputs within aggregate specific guidelines. You will also support Cost Engineering with continuous improvement and digitalization projects.

Salary placement is determined by your anticipated graduation year and ranges between $21 - $29 per hour.

What You Drive at DTNA
  • Disassemble and document truck part weights, dimensions, images and compare with other truck parts of Daimler or competitors for reference cost calculation.
  • Prepare presentations for cross functional teams and management.
  • Learn and use Daimler specific IT systems for technical drawings and 3D documentation of truck parts.
  • Learn and use Daimler methodology for cost analysis using price breakdown templates.
  • Consolidation of cost calculations, price assessments and results for regional and global comparison.
  • Generate ideas for cost optimizations.
  • Continuously improve and standardize costing methods and templates to streamline future work.
  • Lead and support efforts to foster an inclusive and welcoming workplace culture where everyone belongs.

Knowledge You Should Bring

  • Must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program or higher from an accredited college/university OR have recently graduated within 1 year of the position start date (May/June) 
  • Currently enrolled in Upper-Division Engineering Program
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Previous experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Passionate about manufacturing technology and enjoys continuously learning
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Solid organizational skills
  • Creative mindset
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment 

Exception Candidates Will Bring

  • Experience with Siemens NX or other 3D modeling CAD software
  • Experience and interest in assembly/disassembly of parts/tools
  • Experience with data analytics platforms such as PowerBI
  • Experience with Microsoft PowerApps Development
  • Experience with Agentic Reference Calculation development
