The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented manufacturing cost accountant with 5+ years of hands-on cost accounting experience, strong analytical skills, advanced Excel capabilities, and the ability to partner with operations and leadership to support informed business decisions.

Position Summary

Schneller is seeking an experienced Cost Accountant to support company goals through accurate cost accounting, financial analysis, ERP system maintenance, inventory valuation, and reporting. This role is ideal for a cost accounting professional with at least five years of experience in a complex manufacturing environment who can provide meaningful data, improve costing processes, and support business decisions across the organization.

The Cost Accountant will work closely with Accounting, Finance, Operations, Sales, Engineering, R&D, and other cross-functional teams to ensure timely, accurate, and actionable cost information.

Key Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate Schneller values and support the organization’s commitment to quality products and processes.
  • Use in-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes and product costing to serve as a trusted resource for business decisions.
  • Maintain, improve, and leverage the standard cost accounting system to provide accurate and meaningful cost information.
  • Plan, collect, and analyze cost data related to raw materials, inventory, labor, production activity, and other manufacturing costs.
  • Provide timely cost estimates for non-standard products to the Sales team, with a target turnaround time of 24 hours or as requested.
  • Report and analyze off-quality material, scrap, and other cost variances on a daily, weekly, monthly, or ad hoc basis.
  • Review job costs and cost journals in the general ledger; monitor, analyze, and correct cost variances as needed.
  • Support new product costing through the New Product Development Stage Gate Process, including financial justification and WIR reporting for R&D.
  • Prepare monthly and ad hoc reports for management, including product line data, scrap data, inventory reporting, process engineering data, experimental costs, and purchase price variance.
  • Train applicable team members on effective use of costing tools within the ERP system, preferably Syteline.
  • Lead and support the annual standard cost roll process in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Participate in scheduled physical inventory of finished goods and perform monthly inventory valuation adjustments for finished goods, manufactured sub-assemblies, stock, and work in process.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual account reconciliations.
  • Maintain fixed assets in the ERP system, including additions, disposals, and assigned reporting.
  • Maintain operating and finance leases in Lease Query, including accounting for new agreements and expired agreements.
  • Support the annual budgeting and planning process as needed.
  • Support and participate in periodic audits.
  • Cross-train with other Accounting and Finance team members and provide backup support during high-activity periods or absences.
  • Perform sales profit margin analysis to identify root causes of variances.
  • Travel may be required occasionally to support other operations or attend meetings, typically less than 10%.
Required Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of cost accounting experience in a complex manufacturing environment is required.
  • Experience with standard costing, inventory valuation, variance analysis, job costing, and manufacturing cost reporting.
  • Prior experience working with ERP systems; Syteline experience preferred.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong ERP software skills; Syteline experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills.
  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, investigate variances, and communicate findings clearly.
  • Must be eligible for any required U.S. government authorizations in accordance with U.S. export regulations, including ITAR 120.15 and EAR Part 772.
Physical Requirements

This position must be able to perform the following physical demands with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Ability to sit at a desk for up to 8 hours.
  • Ability to walk through office and industrial/manufacturing environments to troubleshoot issues and support projects.
  • Sitting, standing, and walking frequently.
  • Occasional bending and climbing.
  • Infrequent lifting of up to 10 pounds.
  • Frequent use of fine motor skills.
  • Ability to perform travel-related activities, including driving, walking through airports, and flying. Travel is expected to be less than 10%.

Skills Required

  • Minimum of 5 years cost accounting experience in a complex manufacturing environment

  • Prior experience working with ERP systems
  • Syteline ERP experience
