Withum’s Tax Services Group is made up of a brilliant team of tax specialists that work to ensure tax reporting obligations are met in an accurate and timely manner and minimize or defer the payment of taxes. Their services include Business, Individual, State & Local tax, R&D Tax Credit, as well as International and Private Client services. 

As a Corporate Tax Manager with a focus on ASC 740, based in our California, Chicago, New Jersey or New York City office, you'll work alongside an integrated team of seasoned, well-known CPAs and industry leaders. In this position, you will take a lead role on all aspects of tax engagements, supervise/mentor staff, and build/maintain relationships with clients.

How you’ll spend your time: 

  • Leading engagements and advising clients on all aspects related to on Income Tax Accounting under ASC 740
  • Taking ownership of tax provisions for a diverse client base (startup through middle-market, primarily industrial and consumer products)
  • Guiding clients through key tax accounting judgments, including effective tax rate drivers and forecasting, valuation allowance positions, provision-to-return adjustments, deferred tax positions and balance sheet integrity, deliver audit-ready, defensible workpapers that stand up to scrutiny from top-tier audit firms, connecting technical ASC 740 outcomes to broader business and financial reporting implications
  • Serving as a trusted advisor and primary point of contact for tax provision engagements
  • Leading discussions with clients and external auditors, clearly articulating complex positions
  • Assisting with tax compliance engagements where needed
  • Anticipating issues before they arise—bringing proactive solutions and insights
  • Identifying opportunities to enhance the client experience through value-add services

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting  
  • CPA license, JD or Masters of Science in Taxation is required  
  • At least 5 years of prior experience working in the tax department of a public accounting, with experience leading multiple engagements and supervising staff 
  • Broad understanding of US GAAP and Corporate Tax law
  • SEC experience preferred
  • Excellent analytical and technical tax skills 
  • Exceptional client service and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain outstanding client relationships 
  • Ability to manage multiple engagements and competing projects in a rapidly growing, fast-paced, interactive, results-based team environment 
  • Strong leadership, training, and mentoring skills, coupled with excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills to represent the Firm well to client’s management 
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, project management skills, and strong attention to detail 
  • Ability to travel as needed (<10%)

The compensation range for this position is $100,000.00 – $160,000.00 and varies by location for candidates residing in California, Chicago, New Jersey, or New York City, For candidates residing in these states, salary will vary based on candidate's location. In addition to the base compensation, Withum offers a competitive benefits package and bonus program (for eligible roles) based on individual and firm performance. Final offer amounts are based on multiple factors such as the specific role, hiring location, as well as the individual’s skills, experience, and qualifications.
