Field Safety Manager
Penske Truck Leasing is seeking a driven and experienced Safety and Compliance Professional to join our team at our Corporate Headquarters in Reading, PA. In this high-impact role, you will ensure compliance with safety programs, policies, and procedures to enhance compliance and reduce risk across our customer base and field branch operations. You will champion a culture of safety by collaborating cross-functionally with multiple departments to drive safe performance, reduce associate injuries, and lower workers' compensation claims — all while building strong professional relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
As a key leader within the organization, you will help coordinate and guide a team of Safety Specialists, ensuring they consistently meet customer expectations while also delivering and engaging in training programs for newly hired, promoted, and seasoned maintenance staff alike. Major Responsibilities
- Ensure full compliance with OSHA and FMCSA regulations by managing, improving, and coordinating company compliance metrics including CSA scores, Driver Qualification (DQ) File Compliance, and the Do Not Drive (DND) List. Serve as the primary point of contact for OSHA inspections and lead remediation efforts.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Safety Specialists, fostering a high-performing culture through ongoing training, coaching, and professional development. Ensure team members are well-versed in DOT and OSHA regulations and consistently equipped to deliver exceptional support to Penske customers.
- Facilitate safety training programs for field staff and corporate-sponsored leadership events, delivering engaging and impactful content that promotes a culture of safety at every level of the organization.
- Manage and resolve customer inquiries and complaints with professionalism and urgency, ensuring a high standard of service and satisfaction across all interactions.
- Build and execute proactive accident and injury prevention strategies, with the goal of reducing workplace incidents and driving down workers' compensation claims over time.
- Establish, monitor, and analyze key performance metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of Safety Specialists and measure safety performance across branches, districts, and areas — using data to drive continuous improvement.
- Partner closely with the Workers' Compensation Manager to develop and implement sustainable injury reduction plans that create lasting, measurable improvements in associate safety.
- Support organizational priorities by taking on additional projects and initiatives as directed by the Director of Safety & Workers' Compensation.
Qualifications
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor's degree is strongly preferred, ideally in Environmental Health & Safety, Logistics, Operations Management, Risk Management, or a related field
- Professional certification is strongly preferred, including Board Certified Safety Professional (BCSP), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
Experience
- 5–10 years of total experience, including a minimum of 5 years in safety management with demonstrated expertise in policy development and regulatory compliance; strong background in OSHA with a proven track record of facilitating and maintaining compliance
- 3–5 years of total experience in a transportation or distribution environment, including at least 3 years in a management or supervisory role; working knowledge of FMCSA regulations required
- Background in automotive field, or industrial maintenance is a plus
Technical Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) with the ability to produce professional-level reports and presentations
- Familiarity with Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools such as data analytics platforms, Ai assisted reporting, or safety management software is a plus.
Knowledge & Expertise
- Comprehensive understanding of DOT and OSHA regulations with the ability to interpret and apply them practically in real-world operational settings
- Strong knowledge of core safety management principles, including hazard identification, risk assessment, and accident investigation
- In-depth knowledge of FMCSA regulations and their application within a transportation and distribution environment
