About MRK Partners

MRK Partners is a privately held real estate investment and asset management company specializing in the acquisition, preservation, and repositioning of affordable housing nationwide. Founded in 2015, we're a women-founded and led company, and our 10-year target is to be the most impactful affordable housing group in the country by 2035.

We pride ourselves on doing high-quality work, standing behind our people and doing right by our residents by serving the community, embracing new ways, working with purpose over pride, and having the drive to achieve.

We run on EOS — clear seats, clear accountability, no ambiguity about who owns what.

About the Role

We're looking for a Corporate Controller to be a direct financial thought partner to executive leadership and own the monthly close process for MRK's corporate entities to keep our financial information accurate and timely. This is a hands-on ownership seat: you'll manage consolidation across 80+ legal entities representing ~11,000 units across 9 states and coordinate our annual audit and tax cycle.

What You'll Actually Own (Essential Duties & Responsibilities)

  • Monthly & Annual Close: Lead the full close process end to end: cutoff discipline, GL review, journal entries, accruals, reconciliation standards, consolidation and timely reporting.
  • Multi-Entity Consolidation: Oversee consolidation and intercompany reconciliation across dozens of legal entities, ensuring clean eliminations and balanced intercompany accounts.
  • Internal Controls & Policy: Develop and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures that protect the company and support operational efficiency.
  • Executive Partnership: Provide financial analysis and reporting insight that directly informs business planning and leadership's strategic decisions.
  • Audit, Tax & Regulatory: Coordinate annual corporate audits, tax preparation, and regulatory filings as the primary point of contact for external auditors and tax advisors.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Be a key participant in the budgeting, forecasting, cash flow monitoring, and reporting cycles alongside department leaders.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required
  • CPA required
  • 10+ years’ of progressive accounting or finance experience, 3+ years’ experience specifically as a Controller or Assistant Controller, within real estate, property management, development, construction, or a related industry, with demonstrated experience in complex, multi-entity environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead both directly and through influence — this seat doesn't currently have direct reports, but is expected to build and manage a team as MRK's entity count and portfolio scales
  • Strong GAAP, internal controls, budgeting, forecasting, and audit coordination knowledge
  • Experience with Yardi, MRI, RealPage, Sage Intacct, NetSuite, or similar platforms preferred

You'll Thrive Here If...

  • You find real satisfaction in a clean close process and a balanced intercompany ledger across dozens of entities; this role lives and dies on that discipline, not high-level oversight from a distance.
  • You want to be a financial partner to leadership, not just a reporter of numbers after the fact; the role expects analysis and recommendations that shape decisions, not just close-the-books accuracy.
  • You'd rather build the control and reporting process than just follow one someone else built.
  • Embrace New Ways applies here too; the role calls for streamlining and strengthening what exists.
  • You can lead and influence people who don't report to you today, and you're ready to build and manage a team directly as the role grows with the company.

Our Values:

  • Serve the Community: give back and pay it forward.
  • Embrace New Ways: obstacles are opportunities, and challenges are catalysts for change.
  • Purpose Over Pride: lead with humility and a shared sense of responsibility to our mission
  • Drive to Achieve: ambition and determination – we can achieve anything we can imagine.
