Job Summary:
Accountant III are staff professionals who apply specialized knowledge, typically as individual contributors, in assisting management in matters that require accounting interpretation or expertise.  Incumbents utilize their professional accounting, insurance industry knowledge, and/or institutional knowledge to perform Corporate Accounting and Reporting department activities. The Accountant III in this role may specialize in topics such as the accounting for leases, property, plant and equipment, member rewards, capitalized software, debt/lines of credit, administrative expense accruals, Statutory footnote coordination and preparation, or other topics as assigned. However, the team member must be flexible as assignments are reallocated based on growth and business needs.   

 


 Essential Functions:

  • The essential functions listed represent the major duties of this role, additional duties may be assigned.
  • Performs more complex accounting functions in relation to general ledger reconciliations, internal/external audits, and financial statements.  This includes preparation of manual journal entries with related analyses on both the GAAP and Statutory bases of accounting, Statutory exhibits and schedules, and financial statement footnotes for monthly, quarterly, and annual filings.  
  • Communicates and coordinates with internal business area personnel in areas of expertise.
  • Ensures adherence to financial controls and accounting policies/procedures.
  • Provides technical consultative services or provide subject matter expertise on key financial/accounting matters to other areas of the organizations. Provides recurring and ad hoc reports and analyses to appropriate leaders and/or areas within the organization.
  • Identifies, recommends and implements quality and productivity improvements.

 

Required Experience:
4+ years related work experience in corporate accounting or an operational accounting department
Related Bachelor's degree required Accounting or Finance 

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel

Experience with financial systems applications to include General ledger 

Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines

 

Preferred Qualifications: 
Insurance industry experience

Experience with financial reporting

Experience in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

 

General Physical Demands:
Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally to move objects. Jobs are sedentary if traversing activities are required only occasionally.

Annualized Salary Range: $71,200 - $115,700
Typical Annualized Hiring Range: $71,200 - $89,000
Final pay will be determined with consideration of market competitiveness, internal equity, and the job-related knowledge, skills, training, and experience you bring.
