This position will work within the community and with hospital partners to bring awareness to the LifeSouth Cord Blood Bank program through public education and recruitment of donor moms.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to

  • Review paperwork related to the collection process with the donor mom, and ensure paperwork is complete and accurate.
  • Determine initial donor eligibility
  • Train hospital staff, OB/GYNs and nurses to collect cord blood according to Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Educate clinicians and potential donor moms on the cord blood donation process
  • Ensure collected cord blood units and supplies used for collection are stored and shipped properly
  • Maintain stock of supplies essential to job function
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with hospital staff
  • Represent and communicate Cord Blood and LifeSouth favorably to the public and participating institutions

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver’s license. Must also meet and maintain LifeSouth driver’s eligibility requirements
  • Ability to primarily work first shift. Flexibility to work nights weekends and holidays, as necessary
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Ability to interact with medical professional at every level
  • Positive bedside manner and emotional intelligence with excellent customer service skills

The ideal candidate will possess

  • Associate degree
  • Previous healthcare experience
  • Knowledge of medical terminology

LifeSouth is a non-profit community blood bank serving more than 150 hospitals in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee. We are committed to meeting the blood supply needs of hospitals and their patients by providing the highest quality blood components and services. With more than 45 donor centers, 55 bloodmobiles and 2,000 blood drives a month, our LifeSouth team is dedicated to making sure the blood is there when you or your family is in need. LifeSouth Cord Blood Bank is a community-based public cord blood bank that collects and stores umbilical cord blood for the purpose of clinical cures and research in the field of stem cell transplantation.

Our Mission

To provide a safe blood supply that meets or exceeds the needs in each community we serve, and to provide a variety of services in support of ongoing and emerging blood and transfusion related activities.
