Job DescriptionThe Opportunity:
Mattel, Inc. is seeking an experienced and self-motivated Copywriter to join its product editorial team. The team focuses on delivering exciting innovative communication for a wide range of brands and projects including Hot Wheels,, Matchbox, Thomas & Friends, Pixar Cars, as well as licensed entertainment brands. The group is focused on overseeing all aspects of product communication by understanding the consumer as well as current trends and technology to deliver successful product related communication. This involves project management responsibilities as well as writing for multiple platforms including, but not limited to: packaging, product names, ecommerce, collateral materials. The ideal candidate will possess creative writing experience showing the ability to work on challenging and fun projects as well as the ability to project manage, perform administrative tasks, and oversee multiple projects simultaneously.
What Your Impact Will Be:
- Work with cross functional team to create ecommerce copy for basic product descriptions, deluxe pages, and visual assets
- Research SEO search terms to incorporate into product display pages
- Work with cross functional team to create toy names, callouts and body copy for licensed or in-house brands
- Generate creative name ideas for new brands and products
- Present ideas to cross functional partners along with strategic direction and rationale
- Work closely with Trademark Legal group to make sure names are cleared for use
- Proofread all materials to identify errors as well as design and copy inconsistencies
- Work closely with marketing and product design to understand product features and attributes in order to generate effective copy
- Ensure all copy has been routed to any necessary internal and external partners for approval at key milestones and make any appropriate changes prior to copy upload into system
- Maintain and follow Mattel legal standards, as they relate to copyrights, trademarks and protection of intellectual property
- Follow department- and Mattel-established workflow guidelines and systems.
- Track and maintain list of final approved names and hand over to documentation when required.

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS REQUIRED:
- 1-3 years experience professional writing for: print media (consumer or trade), consumer products, branding/style guides, naming, etc.
- Minimal project management experience helpful
- Conceptual and creative thinker
- Ability to problem solve and be resourceful
- Detailed proofreading skills
- Experience in kid-related content and packaging
- Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to utilize Mattel systems and operate within them
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams
*The pay range is indicative of projected hiring range, however base pay will be determined based on a candidate’s work location, skills and experience.
