About the Role

Atari is seeking a highly skilled Copyright & IP Counsel based in New Delhi to support the company’s global intellectual property strategy, with a primary focus on preparing and filing U.S. copyright registrations for Atari’s extensive portfolio of games, software, art assets, music, and related materials. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, process-driven intellectual property lawyer who has demonstrable experience with U.S. Copyright Office practices and is comfortable working with creative, technical, and legal stakeholders across multiple countries.

Responsibilities

U.S. Copyright Filings

  • Prepare, manage, and submit U.S. copyright applications (eCO portal) across categories including software (TX), audio-visual works (PA), visual materials (VA), sound recordings (SR), and related assets.
  • Organize, review, and upload all required deposits, metadata, and supporting documentation.
  • Track filing timelines, effective dates, publication dates, renewals, and supplementary registrations.
  • Maintain an internal repository of filed copyrights and ensure full accuracy and completeness across all project submissions.

Chain of Title & Documentation

  • Prepare, review, and maintain assignment agreements, work-for-hire documentation, and contractor IP agreements to establish clear ownership of game-related assets.
  • Create and maintain structured chain-of-title documentation for all filings.
  • Collaborate with internal departments (Development, Creative, Production) to gather source materials and asset lists necessary for filings.

IP Portfolio Support

  • Assist with the management and organization of Atari’s international IP portfolio.
  • Support U.S. and EU outside counsel on copyright matters and coordinate with internal stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance on copyright best practices, derivative works, publication, and rights clearance.

Process Management & Compliance

  • Build and maintain a repeatable, scalable process for large-volume copyright filings.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. Copyright Office standards, international treaties (e.g., Berne Convention), and Atari’s internal policies.
  • Document workflows and improve operational efficiency in partnership with global legal and IT teams.

Key Competencies

  • Detail-oriented: Able to produce precise, error-free legal filings.
  • Process-driven: Comfortable building systems and checklists for repeatable workflows.
  • Technically literate: Able to understand game asset structures, file formats, and digital submission workflows.
  • Collaborative: Works effectively with global legal teams, outside counsel, and internal departments.
  • Ownership mindset: Able to independently run Atari’s copyright registration pipeline.

Required Qualifications

  • LL.B. degree from a recognized Indian university; an LL.M. with specialization in Intellectual Property Law is preferred.
  • 3–7 years of professional experience in IP law with a proven track record of filing or managing multiple U.S. copyright registrations.
  • Strong familiarity with:
  • U.S. Copyright Office systems (eCO portal)
  • Copyright categories (TX, PA, VA, SR)
  • Deposit formatting and submission standards
  • Work-for-hire and rights assignment principles
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong organizational discipline and meticulous documentation habits.
  • Ability to manage multiple filings simultaneously with high accuracy.

Preferred Experience

  • Prior work at a top-tier IP law firm or legal process outsourcing (LPO) provider handling U.S. copyright matters.
  • Experience in software, gaming, entertainment, or digital media IP portfolios.
  • Knowledge of U.S. trademark processes (USPTO) is a plus.
  • Experience with online content protection (DMCA, platform takedowns) is beneficial.
  • Comfort working with digital asset systems, file repositories (e.g., S3 buckets), and structured metadata.

Why This Role Matters

This position plays a critical role in strengthening Atari’s global rights portfolio and protecting the company’s creative assets. As Atari continues to expand its library across platforms, regions, and partner ecosystems, a disciplined and proactive copyright program is essential. This role will become a cornerstone of that strategy.
