Coordinates administrative and operational functions that support the success, retention, and engagement of veteran and military-affiliated students under the supervision of the Assistant Director and Director of Veterans and Military Student Support (VMSS). Serves as a primary resource for student support initiatives, academic success programming, campus partnerships, and retention efforts while assisting with the certification of VA educational benefits in accordance with federal and state regulations.

Responsibilities

Student Success, Retention, and Campus Support (40%)

 • Develops and manages programs and initiatives that promote the academic success, retention, persistence, and graduation of veteran and military-affiliated students. • Coordinates student success efforts including mentoring programs, orientation initiatives, workshops, study groups, and resource referrals. • Identifies and supports students experiencing academic, personal, financial, or transitional challenges and connects them with appropriate campus resources. • Collaborates with Academic Advising, Counseling Services, Disability Resources, Financial Aid, Career Services, and other campus partners to ensure coordinated support for military-affiliated students. • Maintains accurate records related to student engagement, support services, referrals, and program participation. • Assists with collecting and analyzing data to evaluate student success initiatives, identify trends, and inform departmental decision-making and continuous improvement efforts. 

Early Alert, Intervention, and Case Management (15%)

 • Coordinates outreach and intervention efforts for students identified through early alert systems, academic warnings, probation, or other risk indicators. • Monitors student progress and engagement, conducts follow-up communication, and assists students in developing strategies for academic success and persistence. • Maintains accurate records of student interactions, referrals, interventions, and outcomes. • Utilizes data and assessment measures to identify trends and recommend proactive support strategies. • Tracks intervention outcomes and student progress, utilizing data to identify barriers to persistence and recommend proactive strategies to improve retention and graduation rates among veteran and military-affiliated students. 

VA School Certifying Official (SCO) (30%) 

• Processes the certification of VA educational benefits in compliance with federal and state regulations. • Reviews and submits enrollment certifications, maintains accurate records for audits, and advises students and families on eligibility, benefits, and enrollment requirements. • Coordinates with Academic Advising, Financial Aid, the Registrar, and the Bursar’s Office to support timely and accurate processing of benefits while maintaining compliance with Department of Veterans Affairs requirements. 

Campus Engagement, Programs, and Educational Initiatives (10%)

 • Coordinates workshops, seminars, presentations, and programs focused on academic success, career readiness, personal development, transition support, and student engagement. • Supports orientation programs and campus events designed to foster belonging and community among veteran and military-affiliated students. • Assists with the planning and implementation of signature VMSS events and student recognition initiatives. • Collaborates with campus departments and community partners to expand resources and opportunities available to military-affiliated students.

Performs other related duties as assigned. (5%)
 

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years of experience in academic advising, student success, student affairs, higher education administration, veteran services, counseling support services, retention initiatives, or related experience. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be substituted for the degree requirement. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment.


The department is especially interested in candidates with the following: 

• Experience supporting student retention, academic success, or student engagement initiatives 

• Knowledge of veteran and military-affiliated student populations 

• VA Educational Benefits knowledge

• U.S. Military Veteran or Service Member (If selected, proof of veteran status will be required.) 

• Experience working collaboratively with campus and community partners

• Knowledge of student development, retention, and student success practices 

• Ability to build relationships with students and campus stakeholders 

• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills

 • Ability to assess student needs and connect students with appropriate resources 

• Strong organizational and case management skills 

• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment 

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook 

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to confidentiality

Skills Required
