SUMMARY

The Coordinator develops, implements, and evaluates a comprehensive campus recreation and wellness program that promotes student engagement, belonging, and well-being through recreational sports, casual drop-in activities, outdoor recreation, social events, and wellness education. The position works collaboratively with the Student Engagement Office team to support campus-wide programs and initiatives that enhance the student experience and provides operational oversight of the Student Fitness Center. The typical work schedules include evenings and weekends to support programming.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Works collaboratively with students and employees  to coordinate and implement a comprehensive recreation and wellness program that responds to the diverse needs and interests of the college community and enhances student engagement, belonging, well-being, and learning.
  • Plans, implements, and evaluates diverse campus recreation and wellness programs, including recreational sports, casual drop-in activities, intramurals based on student interest, outdoor recreation and excursions, social and recreational events, fitness activities, wellness education, peer education programs, and virtual opportunities.
  • Provides operational oversight -of the Fitness Center, utilizing student assistants to  support day-to-day operations and staffing.
  • Recruits, trains, and supervises Student Wellness Peer Educators and Recreation Assistants. Guides peer educators in developing and delivering wellness education and programming based on student needs, survey data, and institutional priorities.
  • Provides encouragement, outreach, and opportunities for connection to engage students in recreation and wellness activities.
  • Collaborates on marketing and communications efforts to promote recreation and wellness programs, activities, and facilities to increase student awareness and participation. 
  • Provides evening and weekend supervision of recreation and wellness activities; officiates/referees intramural sports activities, as needed.
  • Serves as the primary contact for scheduling approved athletic uses of the Stinson Family Event Center, soccer field, and tennis courts; manages related bookings using venue management software. Provides usage guidelines and rates and responds to inquiries.
  • Develops cost estimates for outside users; confirms bookings, prepares use contracts, issues invoices, and collects required insurance documentation prior to use.
  • Maintains accurate program and facility  documentation, including forms, waivers, participation data, reports, and equipment checkouts.
  • Oversees all recreation equipment, ensures proper maintenance, cleanliness, storage, and inventory, and recommends equipment purchases and repairs.
  • Administers the Healthy Colleges Montana grant; ensures alignment with student wellness initiatives set by Student Engagement. 
  • Collaborates with the Student Engagement Office team in the ongoing development, build-out, and administration of FVCC Connect (CampusGroups), including creating and maintaining content, developing platform features and processes, providing training and support to users, and promoting the platform to increase student and campus engagement.
  • Assists with campus-wide student events and Student Engagement initiatives. 
  • Builds partnerships and fosters cooperative relationships with campus, schools, community groups, and other external agencies to enhance and promote FVCC recreation and wellness activities.
  • Maintains CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Remains current in practices, trends, and research related to areas of assignment.
  • Attends related trainings, workshops, and professional development.
  • Cross trains to perform other departmental and team functions; backfills for staff as needed. 
  • Actively participates in the development of a climate that promotes and supports innovation and efforts to continuously improve services to students, faculty, and the College.
  • Creates and maintains a collaborative and collegial environment with colleagues and maintains effective working relationships. 
  • Maintains professional ethics and confidentiality of students in accordance with applicable laws and policies.
  • Advances the mission of FVCC by serving on or convening committees and contributing to the community in college-related activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in closely related field, AND one year of experience working in recreation and wellness programs; OR,
  • Associate’s degree in closely related field, AND three years of experience working in recreation and wellness programs; OR,
  • An equitable combination of higher education and experience working in recreation and wellness programs;
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications, OR the ability to obtain within three months of hire, AND
  • Valid Montana driver's license with insurable driving record, OR ability to obtain license by start of employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two years of work experience in higher education recreation and wellness programs.
  • Experience officiating/refereeing sports activities.
  • Experience overseeing peer education.
  • Experience in event planning.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of health and wellness topics, including current practices in recreation, fitness, and peer education
  • Knowledge of intramural sports rules, safety practices, and officiating/refereeing sports activities.
  • Ability to schedule facilities, operations, and utilize venue management systems.
  • Ability to manage fiscal budget, comply with spending guidelines, align with institutional priorities, and other related fiscal and administrative tasks.
  • Skill and ability to operate current technology, such as student/customer information systems and platforms, proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace software applications, and other related software.
  • Strong commitment to providing quality customer service and collaboration by creating a welcoming and supportive environment for a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work within policies and procedures of FVCC.               
  • Ability and willingness to serve as an ambassador for the College by interacting appropriately with the college community and community.
  • Ability to maintain effective and positive professional relationships.         
  • Ability to follow and issue directions.                                              
  • Demonstrated communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with students, staff and the public.                                                      
  • Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds. 
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including evenings, weekends, etc. based on program needs.
  • Ability to maintain regular and acceptable attendance levels.          
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Ability to pass driver’s license records check and maintain current Montana Driver’s License and a clean driving record.            
  • Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check.                                                   
  • Ability to respond in the event of an emergency.     
  • This is a Medium Duty job, according to the Selected Characteristics of Occupations Defined in the Revised Dictionary of Occupational Titles, U.S. Department of Labor and Industry.  Medium Duty involves exertion of 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds continuously to move objects.
