Job Description

To provide secretarial, administrative and process assistance to Anatomical Pathology in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.

  • Responsible for the daily workload and tasks associated with the operation of the Pathology Office
  • Assistance to Pathologists as required
  • Liaise with Oncology for requested tests
  • General office duties including ordering of supplies, entering work orders etc
  • Referring-out slides and blocks for consultations
  • Maintains logs of send-outs and follows up on outstanding cases
  • Participates in the training and orientation of new staff
  • Acts as confidential secretary to the Pathologists and Manager as required
  • Generates statistical reports as required
  • Assists in the daily operation of the office by assuming responsibility for further delegated tasks
  • Maintains and updates skills as required
  • Participates in Halton Healthcare staff programs and meetings 

Qualifications

  • 2 year community college program (Graduate Medical Secretarial Program; Medical Transcription) or equivalent experience
  • Must be physically able to do the job
  • Satisfactory employment and attendance record
  • Required to use Meditech Expanse, dictating equipment, printers, phones
  • Previously demonstrated experience with computers and medical terminology required
  • Specific knowledge of pathology terminology an asset as extensive Surgical Pathology reporting is required

Additional Information

Hours: Monday to Friday - 7.5 hour rotating day shifts (Hours are subject to change based on operational needs) 

Salary: $31.147 to $38.907 per hour
